Set Up - Convection Fan Threshold???

Set Up - Convection Fan Threshold???

PostBy: morabito On: Tue Jan 21, 2014 3:38 pm

I've read through the entire Coal-trol manual and am unclear as to what the Convection Fan Threshold setting is supposed to do. It says the following:

When the firing rate (FR) percent is
greater than the (CFT) percentage,
the convection blower will be allowed
to start. Use this to increase the
temperature of the convection air at
low firing rates.

What does this mean exactly and what is the best setting for the Convection Fan Threshold on a Leisure Line Pocono??

I played with these years ago and (of course) ended up with factory settings. These tweaks were not worth it for me. So as the feed rate rises (FR) so the fan can anticipate more heat coming down the line. Leave it alone unless you have special needs. Having said that I use my AnthraKing a little different and I need al the air I can get so I bypassed the dist fan with a plug and run flat out all the time. Works great adn the fan sounds happier! but the Pocono fan is much more limited for local heat distribution and you may have special needs. What is not working for you?

Put another way: Convection Fan Threshold sets which FR (feedrate) the convection blower will first turn on.

By increasing this value you will be increasing the size the fire is allowed to get to before the convection fan turns on, effectively increasing the temperature of the air it will blow at minimum speed.

We, of course, recommend leaving this setting at default value. However, people and installation needs are different, so if you feel that the stove is blowing "cold" air when it first kicks on, you can increase this value to remedy that. On some stoves and installations people have opted to actually decrease this setting in order to have the blower come on at lower fire sizes because they felt there was still room to lower it without it blowing cold air at minimum speed.

It is entirely up to you where you want it set, but if you have no particular complaint about the air the blower is moving out of the stove when first kicking on then leave it alone. :)

In cold weather like the next 2 weeks, I usually go to temp hold on Y, and plug my convection blower directly 24/7. This gives the basement a reserve of heat for when the blower upstairs calls for heat, the stove is already up to speed. Otherwise the Coal-trol does it all when temps are winter "normal".
