keystoker feed issues

keystoker feed issues

PostBy: danwesson623 On: Fri Jan 31, 2014 4:40 pm

I am a NEWBEE here. I had a hand fired coal boiler but just purchased and installed a Keystoker K6 boiler yesterday. Boiler works and heats fine. The question I have is the fire seems to be too far up the burner. My draft is set at .02 to .03. The blower is set at about 1" open. The coal feed is set at 6 turns. I have about 6 inches of ash on the burner and about 3 inches of fire. The manual says to turn the coal feed down 10 to 12 turns for rice coal which is what I am burning. If I set it at that the fire moves even further up the burner and the fire gets smaller with more ash. Manual also say you should only have about 2" of ash. The only way I can get this is to turn the coal up to about 3 turns. Is this ok? Seems like it would burn ALOT of coal at that setting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thermostat has to have stoker running steady before finding your max setting w/ 2" of ash. An idle fire will always go back to a short fire in a little while.

McGiever Thanks for the reply but the condition I described is with the main blower on and the thermostat calling for heat.

Is the rotating pusher bar arm hitting the cabinet? If you turn the thermostat way up and wait 30-60 minutes does the entire stoker carpet have burning coal?

Did you spin the feed nut all the way clockwise when the stoker arm allowed and then back off counterclockwise 12 turns?

At 6 turns out, my KA6 would be pushing red hot coals off the carpet. Is the boiler and stoker plumb and level?

Yes, I'll second what McGiever said. The 2" is what's at the end of the grate, while the stoker is running flat out. Afterwards, the fire will shrink back down, with lots of ash between the fire, and end of grate.

If the red feed adjustment nut is turned all the way up to the arm that pushes the coal and the air adjustment wide open, in about 45 to 60 minutes the entire carpet of the burner will be fire. With the feed nut turned down 6 turns I have about 5 inches of ash. That is with the blower full on making heat not on standby.

I will recheck for level and plumb. Also the coal pusher is not hitting the cabinet.

Too much air perhaps. Adjust the draft with the Baro damper.
