hesston 530 baler?

I've always felt 4X4 balers made a lot of sense for small acreage people. They roll up nice and tight, will go 2 wide on an 8' wide trailer without hanging over the sides and don't weigh nearly as much as the full-sized bales, so a person with small or older tractors can still easily lift them. Hesston makes very good balers, although I'm not familiar with that model, Hesston's reputation is outstanding in hay equipment. Jerry

Well I bought the baler, left it in his barn till springi don't have cover for it. Looked at some of the bales it made last year too. Only item other than it needs one spring might be the electric tie motor ceased up on him last spring he oiled it and it was OK, or so he says, but he is going to hunt down the manual tie mechanism as well. Talked toa few Hesston owners around here they love them claim they're almost fool proof, one guy even went back to a530 baler from jd. Anyway I hay alone and its going to make haying easier on me asi have to Bale, pick of the ground &stack ona Wagon now, unload and stack in the barn alone too. So round bales make it easier on me,as long as the old 530case stays running. It's all I've got fora front end loader. Easier feeding to my horses in the Winter too. Will have to build a lean too on the south side of barn to keep under cover, can't see howi can stack round bales as tight inside the hay barn but I'll find out come July. Thanks for the help. And yesi own two hay spikes one for the three point hitch one for the bucket. The 4th bales are easy to roll too if need be.

Well i'm late to this party but.

Never fear you have made an excellent purchase. 530 is a fantastic full proof model. Very little in the way of issues. I live 3 miles from a hesston dealer so I am very familiar with all there equipment. They made the same baler for CaseIH model 8420. You can source parts thru Hesston or CASEIH which is nice... But you won't need many parts I would bet. Tpyical wear stuff only.

4x4 is a nice bale.

I have a 4x5 Krone KR160

You'll LOVE round bales if you have been square baling... Just SO much less effort. When i Switched 3 years ago I was just like. YEA Finally! No more hot hay mounds throwing around bales in 100 degree's. Ugh. Good memories but its not something I miss.

The year before I bought my Round baler I had heat stroke and I said man this has got to be easier!

Take care, Enjoy that Baler. you'll love it.

PS I recommend the feed guide wheels on the pickup if you don't have them... the pickup on the baler isn't that large. not sure how large you row your hay but I will get 4' to 5' wide pretty easily and I like the larger pickups.

The previous owner must have got all the bells and whistles as it has those wheels on either side of it. He took the rubber trim off them though,he said he never used them, as well it has the Bale ramps.and electric tie. He does have the rubber trim for the Windrow tenders. The chains look worn and loose with some repair links. That is a bit ofa concern but easily repaired. Thanks for the input late or not i was a bit hesitant to buy it as i was the only caller on Craiglist for the baler. Now I'm hearing he is getting calls for it(income tax returns must be in).

NCN, got the baler ready to go? was going over my CIH8340 mower today, lube, adjusted, check for wear/broker items(none), check all bolts for tightness, one reel bar end pickup spring missing. Hope i don't find it in a tire or mower haying. JD336 baler, got kicker pump back on, pressure gage in, replace pressure line from pump to control valve with a .750" line, cleaned out hyd tank, added new fluid. Still need to pull out of shed and grease, polish billhooks a little and test run. Tedder meteric PTO shaft was hard to slide, so took it apart, polished male tube cleaned female tube best i can and greased male tube real good reassembeled...much better now. Pretty much ready for haying, just neeed to get second wagon built.

I've got an old running gear need to turn into a round baler hauler, still need to run a few old bales through the roundbaler. Need to tighten chains up on belt drive awful loose. I suspect the electric tie could give problems too. But all in all I ran it home 2 hrs behind the truck and she tracked well

I prefer the big bales. Don't have to crouch down using them for a steady rest for the gun while chuck hunting ! :D

I've seen coyote poop on top of a few round bales, but I've never seen a deer up there. :D

This is about all I usually see on top when I'm out in a hay field. Love those big bales - great for my bad back ! :D

still getting my haying equipment ready...
lots to do and need to get moving I guess.
I did buy all the replacement parts i needed just need to install them on the equipment.

I stopped square baling about 3 years ago also. Just don't have the help needed and after a few years of throwing 3000 bales myself in and out of the barn I was done with that!

I actually see no difference in price either. I can sell the rounds out for the same tonnage I sold the Squares at. with 500% less manual labor.

I don't forsee myself going back to squares unless I decide to start hauling them south for the bigger profit.

You have to go looking for someone still square baling around here. And likely they are horse people, not dairy. Most farms have switched over to the large rounds, a few have the small rounds.

Friend who's farm is those pictures above, has the older stop and drop large baler. He has MS, that's gotten worse the last few years, and can't get around well, so a neighbor with a big operation down the road does his haying and puts it up for him in exchange for part of it. They use a large round baler pulled with a big dually quad tractor. Never stops, just drops on the run. Man, can that thing bale a big field in a hurry !!!!

I need to replace the front wheel bearings in my old case tractor too,530. Is the only tractor I own has a decent front end loader, but after a few years the wheel bearings get sloppy.
