Diesel fuel at a Sunoco off the hi-way last week here was $4.76! Was $4.55 a week B4. Just the other day it went "down" to $4.66. WT...Heck is going on?

Yes.. The only reason they add red dye is so the know if your using fuel oil. Now what does it matter.

One of the biggest reasons I am doing what I am doing. That and I never met a coal miner that wanted me dead. Foreign oil just seems dirty. :) BTW don't worry on road diesel will follow shortly I have seen $4.89 along the highway.

Last time I bought fuel oil it was in 2010. Back then it was costing me $800 every three weeks to fill the tank on a 40 year old furnace. With the stat set at 65* it would run every 10 minutes. So I got oil roughly four times that winter and it cost me $3200 for the winter.

Burning coal, it costs me roughly $1200 for the season and I'm able to keep my house at 75*+ all winter with a $2000 savings.

Strange you mention this. A group of us in work were talking about winter heating, and my boss states he keeps his thermostat at 70*. I asked him if he had gas heat, and he said,"no, oil. I'm about to fill my tank for the 4th time this winter, and then I'll be done". (And he didn't bat an eye). I told him, if I had to fill my tank 4 times in one winter, I'ld be done too. (Done with ever buying oil again.)

If I was still burning oil, I'd already be burning my 5th tank full  This would be a 6 tank winter,....at least! The house would be 5 or 6 degrees colder too. I'm guessing 6 tons of coal will hold me. 7 at the most :D

I don't know what I would save but I think Its a substantial amount,I used 120 gal a year(stat set on 62* or so) plus 4 or 5 cords of wood and the house was only warm when someone was home to feed the stove, now I use no oil and about 4 or 4 1/2 tons of coal($1120.00 delivered) a year plus the house is between 74* to 78* tending it only 1 or 2 times daily. I think 2008 was the last time I filled the oil tank to a tune of $780 if I remember correctly, so I think I am saving at least $1500.00 or more a year :D .Keepaeyeonit
