Gotta Buy Propane!

Since we still use LP for cooking, clothes dryer, and my separate shop heat I have to bite the bullet and get the minimum 200 gallon delivery. Have not bought it for almost 4 years so the price will be a shocker!
But this will be the very last LP purchase! I will be running a gas line down to the road and tap into NG! Had the local gas company out yesterday and got the specs. So after it is installed and maybe a small wood burner in my shop, don't want to go coal as I don't use the shop as much, I should be good to go. BTW the gas people said right now NG is 1/5 the cost of LP for the same BTU's.
A question. If I still have LP in the tank when I call them to take it away do you normally get a credit? Or should I just run it dry?

You should get a credit.

I I'm just guessing but I doubt very much they will give you a credit. They may even charge you to dispose of anything in the tank. I know with oil, they never give a credit for pumping a tank out. And that is relatively easy to do compared to propane.

Just remember that with ng you are connected to the community pipe line,when demand gets too high it can run out as it has in several areas during the bitter cold we had.You will have no control of your fuel supply,you will have to trust completely on the gas company ,with coal you control your heating fuel supply .

The natural gas utility that serves our area just announced increase coming of 10%-20% effective immediatley. No nat. gas in my neighborhood though.

I may have to start looking into availability of Bit coal in my area for a hand fed stove. Just in case there is a supply problem/astronomical price increase with anthracite. I assume I can burn bit in something like a Hitzer 983 fireplace insert?

You control your supply? I guess you have your own mine out back. We are all subject to the whims of a market for the products we use. Remember, your energy costs will necessarily skyrocket.

Coal will be no different.
The society that has cheap and abundant energy is the one that advances. Money that is spent on iPhones and other useless trinkets of society will have to be spent just living. IT is already happening to our middle class. The countries that we spend our money with for the trinkets and necessary items are now spending that money on our energy. Suprise! The companies that tear up our property, pump our oil, and frack the ground are Global entities and could care less about the American people! You didnt think it was going to be cheap just because it comes from OUR country, did you? Energy independence??? Just as long as you can pay the going price...... Guess I sound like a Dem on that one! This is just a big game of Simmcity folks! Wood is the only thing you can supply yourself and you need a standing supply for that. Wood anyone?

Reminded of the SB commercial with B Dilan. Let them make your phone, etc. but we will make your car. If we send all the money over there, are they going to buy our cars so we can buy their phones? I think not......

When I switched from Suburban to Ferrell for propain I got a credit for gas left in the Suburban tank, I know they ripped me off but at least I got something.

KLook,some of us simple minded folks like me have a hard time putting the right words together so that the intelligent among us can understand. Let me try.... if you have xx tons of coal in your bin,enough to last the entire heating season or if you have a 5000 gal.oil or propane tank ,you have control of your heating fuel supply,hook to some ones pipeline ,what do you control ,nothing .That's the best explanation my simple mind can handle ,maybe one of the other members who can give an eloquent speech can chime in & explain it properly to you.
