About ten to fifteen years ago, we had a bad winter and the feds pulled the top limit on truckers hauling road salt to the different road departments. The Local PennDot yard ran out of salt early in the year, then stocked up again. Once the emergency was over, the local road departments decided to band together to purchase salt to save money. Yeah, right save money. My township paid more per ton then they had before.
Now they order the salt brine and store it in big tanks.
You guys in Eastern Pa, should live here in the Lake Effect Snow Zone, it would be a good learning experience for you.
Walk out of the house and go to the shop with the sun shining, work in the shop for an hour or so and walk out to 6" of fresh snow on the ground that fell while you were in the shop.
