Weather Man Said It's the Last Day of Brutal Cold!

Great news this morning when I watched the forecast. First, it was -9

and the weather totally missed this one. He said that today and tonight its going to be in the single digits but then it's warming up to the mid 20's then 4 days of mid 30's.

I've never been happier to hear about a heat wave that's sweeping our area and bringing temps where they are supposed to have been all winter. Best news is that he said that the jet stream is shifting and that the bitter cold won't be back for at least a month or possibly this year. As my wife was cheering with the kids this morning I reminded them that it was supposed to be 10-12 degrees this morning so lets see it happen before we celebrate. We will be lighting the grill on Sunday to celebrate temps over 35. Hang in there we're almost done!

Bitter cold here in MA as well (0 Degrees this morning, guess I should be thankful for that compared to some folks

) ...but im seriously getting a tired of such extreme cold, Im ready for the golf course already!

I'll believe it when I see it! Supposed to be zero here tonight with a foot of snow tomorrow night

Just taking a break from moving as much coal as I can from the tarp covered, igloo shaped snow covered mound in the yard to the covered staging bin outside the boiler room. Only thing worse than schlepping buckets of coal down the yard is schlepping buckets of coal down the snow covered yard. And yes,.....I'm using the kids toboggan!!!

Still pretty frigid here, at least I think so! This hasn't been the easiest winter to heat. Plus it's my first year in the new to me home, and first year burning coal. Seems like the stove is always working overtime and can't seem to catch a break. It was -9 this morning when I left, supposed to see a high of 19 today. SUPPOSED! Hahaha at least it's warmer than the -20 crap we were dealing with a few weeks ago! I think this year the boss lady will be outside tanning on the deck when it's 50 outside!

Have you tried wood under same conditions ? what a blast !! We had a cord delivered yesterday,now have 2 cords on hand,at current temps that will only last till 2-27-14,BUT,if !! it warms up as they are forecasting that could last into March.The cold just doesn't quit this winter,we had 6* this a/m,tomorrow's forecast for 3*,we will probably be -0*.

iwnd chills tonight and in the morning are still going to be rough.

i'm at work unloading semi's of material in the open and it ain't too nice right now either !!

but i'm ready, I've been watching the long range forecasting for the last month.

Living in the lee of the Great lakes, up here in the hills of central NY, the weather can change in the extreme in minutes. Before I moved here, I thought the line, "If you don't like the weather, just wait a few minutes." was a punch line from a joke. Here's it's reality.

Many of the Syracuse weather folks request to work in this area and admit, because it's one of the most challenging places in the lower 48 to try and predict the weather.

Not uncommon to go from below zero weather to 60-70's in mid January and a day or two later, back below zero. And, they had snow here in the village in June the year before I moved here.

I tell visiting family/friends to wear long johns under their shorts and a winter coat over their tee shirts, plus bring a snow shovel and umbrella, . . then they'll be ready for our weather.

you would have got along great with my grand dad, he could pitch a beotch about weather guys for a solid hr. and never repeat himself. my grand mother kept a list of stuff for him to do between getting home at night and supper so the TV didn't get turned on for the early news, otherwise you couldn't eat with him at the table.

of course growing up I thought it was great fun.

Weathermen, snowplows, power outages, phillies broadcasters, flyers games, olympics stopping hockey season, sports talk shows on comcast etc, etc, etc.....everybody is a frickin' idiot. Every call has about an hour of complaining and because his memory is awful he forgets what he complained about earlier in the call so you get a rerun.

He is hilarious especially when it comes to the Phillies. I just let him rant. I figure at 88 he deserves it and he seems in a better mood when he is done!

It was freaking -23degF here in Escanaba, MI this morning @ 8am!! That was just the basic temperature! Wind chill was -30something! Our weatherman lied through his teeth last night. Said it wouldn't get any colder than "ten below." Pffftttt! I'll believe a warm up when I see it. As is it, anything above freezing will feel positively tropical when we've been dealing with minus teens and twenties temps and wind chills for the past (seems like 60+ days) weeks!

See, this is why I like coming to these forums. I can be myself and say exactly what's on my mind and no one judges me or outright says I'm wrong. Other forums I'm on if I said something like half the stuff I post in the political boards or in FSC I'd be called out. But here, I am part of something.

I probably would've gotten along with your grand dad; him and I would've probably talked for hours on the idiotic injustices and stupid people in this world.
