Coal Shortage?

PostBy: kstills On: Wed Feb 12, 2014 2:45 pm

I was just talking to a friend who burns anth, and he says our local supplier has put all new deliveries at 1000lb maximum. Another dealer in the area is reported to be completely out of coal. The rumor is that 'a breaker' laid off all it's workers after stockpiling coal for the winter, and has now run out.

Anyone anywhere else having this problem? I'm in Central Bucks area, just above Philly.

I haven't heard anything but that would really suck! I'm going to be needing another delivery soon. I have a full oil tank if worse comes to worse but I'd really rather not burn through $1000.00 of oil waiting for $235.00 worth of coal

I took two tons two weeks ago, and my guy was saying then that the breaker had laid folks off, but he didn't indicate that supply would be a problem.

This might be a cascade effect, where one dealer runs out, and everyone he supplied starts to scramble to the next guy.

And my guy might be protecting those of us who've been with him for a few years now, who knows?

Bad situation, with the weather the way it is.

Not just us "New Englanders". If you look at how many new members have joined here on NEPA , it seems many if not most are "newbie" coal burners. And that is just the people we know about. Looks like lots of people are going back to coal or are just now finding out about it.

I agree. In my area its more wood then coal but I see people hauling it everywhere. I'm sure many more will find coal before next fall, plus other alternatives. But it seems we see a shortage of coal this time every year according to what we read here.

Shortages can be expected at this time of the year under normal circumstances especially with the rice. You have a double whammy, people are typically getting their second load about this time and the cold weather can shut the breakers down. Because of the extensive cold weather that is going to exacerbate the situation.

We used to stock pile coal over the summer on a private lot for years, never ran out but that gets expensive . It got to the point it wasn't worth it and Hudson always had a good supply however I have seen the rice supply get down to about 20 tons. In the late 90's they were running out of room to stockpile it....

I have to agree with lightning, about getting supplied early. My supplier said that this year more new faces showed up than ever before. Seems more and more are turning to coal.
BTW lee great vid

A guy I work with said his supplier in Cobleskill NY was limiting 1 ton max for pickup. I know wood suppliers have run out for some.

Nonsense lots of coal I've had more trouble finding a del guy rather than the coal and since I found Luke Lapotsky I don't even worry about that. I could prolly find more Rice Coal in a 15 mile radius to fill a house. Haha.

Lewis

There is NARY a bag of coal to be found on the North Shore of Taxachusetts right now. The one place that does have some wants, now get this... They want $458.40 for a TON PLUS $141 for delivery!!!!!! Please note they are 10 miles from my home. And yes that is per TON. Not 1.2 tons. They are charging HIGH RETAIL prices on tons. Over $9.00 a bag. (50 bags per ton)

Other sellers are OUT and have been out for over a month. So there is a coal shortage issue depending on ones location. Now what is causing this shortage is the question.

If anyone wants these thieves name PM me. I have their emails confirming pricing and delivery charges as well.

Good rule of thumb that has been mentioned many times on this fine forum. ORDER YOUR COAL IN THE SUMMER.

I think I stated that fact rather plainly in my post as well.

If you would like to trade homes drop me a PM. I would LOVE to get out of the godforsaken libtarded cesspool of Taxachusetts and PA sound pretty good. Can't be any worse than here... Perhaps SamHill would be interested. He would fit right in AND there is pleanty of xanax for him as well.
