PostBy: wilder11354 On: Wed Feb 12, 2014 7:44 pm

another winter storms coming up the eastern seaboard.... my area is on edge of 12+ and up to 12" of snow. Got fuel for generator, coal bins full, but do need to get some fuel for plow truck...just in case i need to plow more than once during storm. Oh pantry has enough food. new englanders will probably get it worse.

We're right on edge of 12" area too. Been mighty cold this week--I'm keeping the DS 1500 humming along at 500* top temp. I've got the generator gassed up too, plus another 5 gal. can for backup. Hope we don't need it, though.

Our township really messed us up plowing the sleet/ice storm last week. First they came through and salted the sleet and ice, then came through several hours later and plowed the salted mess over against the curb. With the cold temps, the melting ice refroze so now we have a foot-deep pile of jaggy ice chunks frozen solid aout two feet out from the curb. Can't wait to see what they do with 12" of snow tomorrow. Post Office tells us to clear snow back to curb in front of mailboxes, but there's no way that's happening with the iceberg underneath.

And, the top half of our driveway is caked with 1 inch or more of the same crap. Because the house faces due north, this part of the driveway never gets sun in the winter. Applied calcium chloride last Saturday but it's been so cold the ice won't melt enough underneath to break it up.

I've seen that 50* extended forecast too--I sure hope we get it so I can finally get rid of this mess!

And I'll be standing out in it all day tomorrow trying to get a dehumidifier running for some guy's indoor swimming pool. While he's away on vacation until the end of March!!!

The kicker? He owns a machine shop! D'OH!

Getting it here to fella's, minor compared to a northern storm, but crippling them down here. The ice to the east is a real big problem though. I have some displaced Mainer friends and relatives over in that neighborhood to.

I think the ground needs to be thawed to be considered onion snow. Not frozen 3ft down. :D Wishful thinking, I like the optimism. :)

There was a mouse in my living room this morning. My cat tried valiantly to catch it. But I ultimately did. Last mouse I caught I put in a bucket of water then shot with a BB gun. This time I just threw it out the window into the snow. Maybe it'll be eaten by a bird or a stray cat or it'll just freeze to death.

Poor smitty will have to wait about 5 more weeks to even SEE Mr Woodchuck, anyway. The way things are goin', as they say in Up-State NY, Vermont, NH and Maine, when asked how long winter lasts: 'Well sonny, we'll just say it will be 10 months of winter, and two months of DAMNED POOR SLEDDIN'.

Ain't it the truth this year! Won't get the 'long johns' off till July 4th........

No, it won't be the last. Another storm will form tomorrow off the Virginia coast and head to the northeast. Exact stormtrack is unknown at this point.
