Hi, all. I've recently purchased and LL Pocono and have been running it for a couple of weeks now. I have a question about its operation that I hope someone can answer. The other day I was inserting a fresh ash pan and it appeared it was being blocked by something. I pulled out the bin and looked in the stove and saw a bunch of fresh coal piled up in the back of the stove behind where the ash bin sits. So every so often I need to scoop it out and put it back in the hopper. Can someone tell me if this is normal and if not, what could be causing this? Thanks.

Make sure the grate is seated properly. If coal is sneaking out the back that is usually the case. Davemorabito wrote:Hi, all. And after ~4 weeks of running you may be a bit of ash start piling up between the stove rear wall and ash pan back side, I just push the pan in a bit harder to move the ash closer to the wall....or just remove the ash with a flat shovel in a few seconds. Doing this 1x a month is not a killer at all.morabito wrote:Adjusted the grate - now it seems fine. Thanks, Dave.
Glad to have you on the forum, lots of experience here with the beloved Poke that keeps on hummin.....

Scratch that - when the stove is really cranking I lose fresh coal out of the sides of the grate in the back where the vertical sides are supposed to meet the back of the stove. The coal squeakes through those spaces then trickles down to the bottom of the stove. It doesn't seem to matter how I position the grate. I guess I'll just have to shovel out the coal once a week or so and put it back in the hopper. Next time I shut down the stove I'll try taking the grate out and putting in back in to see if I can position it any better that way.

Maybe I'll try placing two pieces of stove gasket on the vertical sides of the grate where they meet the back of the stove to seal the spaces. That might do the trick. If anyone has any other ideas I'm all ears.

Shouldn't be much more than an 1/8th " between grate to the feeder back .morabito wrote:Maybe I'll try placing two pieces of stove gasket on the vertical sides of the grate where they meet the back of the stove to seal the spaces. That might do the trick. If anyone has any other ideas I'm all ears.

I've got bigger gaps than that. I'll fuss with the grate again - it's a little tricky when it's hot. Otherwise, I'm thinking some gasket on the edges should do the trick.

Wait till it cools and the hopper is empty. Probably coal stuck between. Either that or smack it back with a large hammer.

Ok, gave it a couple of smacks (with my hand, not a hammer), and that seemed to seat the grate closer to the back wall of the stove and fix the problem. Thanks again, Dave.
