PLEASE, stop with the didactic crap:( I replace my 3 every 3 yrs. I don't give a damn what the manufacturer says. Better safe then sorry. Hell, they aren't that expensive compared to the alternative ;) Plug in, battery back up

I replace after 5 years. I currently have 5 sprinkled around the basement and upstairs. I usually buy a new one every year when I see them on sale or a particularly nifty looking one catches my eye. So the ages of all the detectors are staggered. None over 5 years, however. Actually, one of them is about 20 years old. I didn't count that one in the 5 I rely on. It was my first. :D I keep it around just to see if it would alarm if the others alarm. So far I have never had any detectors alarm or register any CO on the meters.

stoker,
Grafton, N.H.- A member from either White River Jct., or N.H, was getting his coal from a place in Lebanon, N.H. 'Whistlenut' is the N.H. forum moderator. He, or another member, can direct you to a dealer. I buy from Dodge grain in Salem, N.H., but that's a 'road trip' for you.
Cheers

Latin sesquipedalis, literally, a foot and a half long, from sesqui- + ped-, pes foot — more at foot

Now y'all know my nickname.

...........your 'fantasy nickname'...............sure it isn't c-( you fill in the blank......) PS: couldn't resist........

Welcome back to coal, and your Amish friend is very good company. If you are lucky, you might get a visit from Freetown on the quad turbo coal liquor-elixir burning 8-N. You won't see the exhaust plume.......not carbon trail following it.........You will think Dale Jr is inbound because it is a high revving Offenhauser under the canopy.

Stoker, please do as Rev Larry and Rob ask. Once you are cleaned out from the wood creosote, you are able to not be quite so diligent. I assume you are after nut or pea coal, and probably will blend them, As far as coal goes, I'll PM you with some more local folks, and West Leb is the place for two.......one higher than the testes on a giraffe, the other very fair IMO. Your demand (tons) will make the decision of where to get it more economically. 15 ton lot bagged Kimmels for 290 a ton....better if you take it all, but over an hour 20 from you south. Local around 320 ish, the giraffe place is 440 a ton....not a pallet. OUCH!

PS: I'm only 18 miles from you depending upon which side of town you are in. When you are in the Grafton Store, make sure to harass Bobby...she loves it.

Thanks for all the replies and info. Sold the wood stove and it went "bye bye" this afternoon. Should have the new Hitzer in a week or two. Called agway in Plymouth NH today $9+ a bag. Yikes!!!!! Found a local guy who is all out, but may be bringing some more in at $345 a pallet. How many/much is on a pallet nowadays? 1.2 tons? or 1.25? When I was last buying coal they were just starting to load the pallets with the extra coal. Whistlenut, Im in Grafton right around the rte 4 town green.
