Cool man, how can you prove any improvement on efficiency? By measuring flue temp?

Flu temp and coal usage,...I guess. Above freezing here now. Will have to wait until it gets cold again to really measure. Unfortunately,.....it WILL get cold again before it warms up,.....maybe July for the warm up

Very preliminary results just in. My usual burn rate without the hanging dry baffle has consistently been 2.5 pounds/Degree Day. My burn rate for the first 24 hrs with the dry baffle in place has been 2 pounds/Degree Day or a savings of 20% :D However,......I'm burning different coal (bagged Kimmels rather than my usual bulk Blaschak) I can't find the BBQ thermometer to check flu temps and the IR gun doesn't measure well on the shiny galvanized vent pipe. I'll have to get a new BBQ thermometer. The results are encouraging. :D it was pretty warm today and we have lots of windows for solar heating. I'll get better data next week when it goes down to the forecast low of 10 above zero,......yet again!

Edit: Wait,..what??.... Revised Degree Day reading from NWS. Apparently I burned 1.6 pounds/Degree Day over the last 24 hrs. Could that little baffle make that much difference??? Only the coming cold weather will tell.

I'm rooting for the 1.6 lbs. per HDD to stick. 2.5 lbs. per HDD seems a might high, unless your house is huge and/or poorly insulated.

2600 square feet with LOTS of windows and skylights. Built in 80's so insulation ok. I hope the 1.6 sticks too! Although, I'll be peeved at the seller for not giving me the baffle and Keystoker for not saying it's needed!

forget about the degree days. make the stoker run for a certain number of minutes with the boiler at a certain temperature and observe the stack temperature.
