Use lump charcoal instead of the sawdust maybe as well. Great for camping campfire I bet.LoschStoker wrote:I wonder if this would work for coal stoves.

I like Labman's approach. I keep a couple bags with me, and it works wonders even on the miserable, marginal draft units. Break it up with a hammer if you like 'small and dainty'. Put it on a paper towel, roll, fold, insert...light, smile and go on with your life.

The simpler the better! I'm too old and sick and tired to bother with foolish ideas that take too much of my valuable sleeping time. I could get a good nap in the time it took to make his fire starters!whistlenut wrote:I like Labman's approach. The quicker the coal gets going, the sooner you can nap by the stove.

Good point.labman wrote:Why complicate it? Just put a layer of cowboy charcoal in there and light it. Game over! It don't get any easier than that.

1/2 a road flare shoved into a heap of coal.....turn on the blowers and off you go....Pretty easy and quick....Cost about 1.50 a start....If you cut them in half...

Use out of date marine flares but prefer lump charcoal. I can get a whole bag for about 8 bucks and use it to light my stove and cook steaks.
