I m new to coal as well as any coal stoves. Looking to buy my first base heater
Would anybody suggest not buying a glen wood # ) base heater.
I heard there are some problems with the pans. Just wondering if I buy a
Restored heater , would it be problematic in the future. Any info would be
Great. Thanks

Welcome Merc,

If you do a search for Glenwood #6, in this "Hand Fired Coal Stove" section, you'll find quite a bit about them that's been posted recently.

And yes, there is a weakness with some of the cast iron bottom pans. However, your search should also turn up info on a project to make new steel pans.

Paul

If the stove is operated properly, then; it will outlast all of us.
You will be very happy with a Glenwood No 6.
They are not only efficient, but; extremely easy to use and maintain.

Here is a thread all about Glenwood No 6 Base Heaters.

Welcome Aboard!
Make sure your buying from a reputable antique stove dealer and beware the home owner spray painting a stove and calling it reconditioned.
A true antique baseburner requires a lot of time, effort and work to call it "restored". Unless your really into this process buy from stove hospital or barnstable or similar reputable stove shops.... then make sure you post for us here the new crown jewel :punk:

Hi Merc300d and welcome to the forum.
You will love a base burner. Glenwood are very good and many other ones can make you more than happy.
I have a Golden Bride and a Sunnyside, both base burner and they are super stoves , just like a 300D :)

The Glenwood is a great quality stove. I think, when they were brand new, there were no issues...after they turn a century old and have been through abuse, some of them have had some issues. Again some is the key word, not many or all.
