Our Glenwood Base Heater On CL

Our Glenwood Base Heater On CL

PostBy: chrisbuick On: Thu Feb 27, 2014 6:54 pm

FYI - There is an Our Glenwood base heater for sale in Stratham NH. It's listed on CL. (no phone number listed)

It was converted to kerosene and has a nasty crack in the base (looks repairable).

I believe these are really efficient heaters.

The pictures are pretty minimal - price $500.00

I'd get it myself, but I'm tapped-out (11 tons of coal this season)!

Chris

I managed to get the man's phone number:

That looks like the big momma, a No 113. This is one of the largest, suspended fire pot type base heaters you can get. These hold a 100 pounds of coal. If I didn't already have one at Emery's waiting for restoration, I might jump on this one.
These are not nearly as numerous as the 111's.
If you want the maximum BTU output with the maximum efficiency, this one is it.
I can't see the number on it, so I'm not positive. It just looks big and beefy like a 113.
This is the cure for a large, old home that might be a bit drafty.

Thanks William - I just had Dave confirm that it's a No. 111.

Too bad it's not a No. 113 - that would have been a real find!

Still, I hope a member buys it. Dave is selling it for the Town of Stratham. It has been in an antique house the town just purchased adjacent to the Town Offices.

I went to see this stove yesterday and passed. Someone else did the same thing the day before as well.

I don't know much about this sort of stove but from my viewpoint there were several problems. The kerosene conversion had taken out the grates and some of the other internals and replaced them with a kerosene burner assembly that was suspended from four rods that in turn connected to a large plate that sat on the bottom of the ash pit area. All the old stove parts that were taken out to make room for the burner assembly (the assembly goes from the floor of the ash pit up to the level of the bottom of the main door) arrangement were missing. It also appears that when they did the conversion they bonded the small door above the ash door in place so it could not be opened. Also the draft lever was not movable but this could have been just a linkage condition. It did have a decent dome and finial / and a large slotted plate which I believe was the "dutch oven" grate that sat in the recessed top above the top insert plate. Sorry I did not take pics - my bad. I will do better next time.

Again - just a disclaimer - this is not my area of expertise -- just trying to give you the best idea I can of how it looked to me.

Hello all. I have a Our Glenwood 113. I have the stove posted in my picture. The stove hospital did this one over a couple years ago. This stove is amazing. Just like they told me. Walk into the room with your eyes closed and you will know exactly where the stove is.

Welcome piercem72.

We love pictures, . . lots and lots of pictures ! :D

Any chance you can post pix of your 113 ? Would love to see details of the suspended firepot and how they made the most of the heat traveling around inside the stove.

WOW, that looks like a mean heating machine. There are more OC residents on coal than I suspected. It's a megatrend, 1 million people live here and already there are five of us with coal stoves. :D :D

It really is everything the stove hospital said it would be. This past winter was the hardest in a long time, this stove never missed a beat.
