So I have not used my chubby much because I just have not been able to eliminate the issue I have with setting of the CO alarms in the house. I know I should spend more time with it and learn how it operates in this house better, but I just haven't had the time. Scares me enough that I won't sleep through the night thinking the CO alarms are going to go off AGAIN! Anyway, the stove is in god shape, grate is good - no cracks.
I love having a coal heated house as I grew up running my parents old Crane, but I just have not had the luck with this one.
Looking for some feedback, offers and name calling! HA :?

Mikloy welcome,The first thing I would do is find out why your stove is not drafting properly(crappy chimney or a blockage somewhere),I would not sell the stove yet.
Please tell us some important things about your set up like your chimney(inside or outside the house, how big,how tall, how far past the roof is it,and if things are nearby that are taller)how its hooked up to the chimney(flue pipe, any dampers)? and if you are having a hard time explaining something just post a pic of it(we love pic's :D ) so its ease to see and I'm sure this forum can get you going again. Give it time we just need more info. Keepaeyeonit

No name calling just food for thought. There is a few coal burners in your neck of the woods and I'm sure someone would be glad too help you out if you wanted, you are not alone my friend regardless of what you might think. You have an excellent stove to heat with and it would be a shame to see you become disenchanted heating with coal. Just say the word and someone close could get this all straightened out for you. :) Mike.

P.S. We reserve Flame Suit Central for name calling! :P

I have talked to some great people on here at the beginning of the "season". I just couldn't get it going, and got a bit intimidated. The stove has all brand new gaskets on it. I put those on myself and no smoke coming out of those. The manual damper is in place in the back. I also have a barro damper on it and tried both with and without that. I know some swear by them and others find them useless. Out of the back of the chubby I have a 90 elbow followed by 3' ih of pipe, then the Barometric, an elbow, and out of my basement wall through a ceramic flue (stove pipe also goes through the ceramic flu) into the Chimney. This chimney is dedicated to this stove - nothing else. Had the chimney cleaned and inspected at the beginning of the season and no blockages. My clean out door is at ground level outside the house. Have since checked for blockages with an inspection mirrors and all clear. The Chimney extends a few feet above the roof. Again, all clear up there.

Please read this:

Basics of a Hand Fired Coal Stove

Ok, thanks for the lay out. Do you have a Manometer? If not order one.

Does the chimney extend a few feet above the roof peak or eve drop?

I am guessing 8x8. And it is about 25' tall (two stories plus extended above roof, eve. not peak.)

That--not above roof peak--is NOT correct any way shape or form. Some pix of the chimney/ roof line would really help in solving your situation--UNLESS, it's got you so gun shy, there's no fix that you would be comfortable with???????

Long shot here BUT...... Have you replaced the CO detector? Is it possible you have a faulty unit? Someplace obviously there is an issue. Did you talk to Larry?

Never seen a chimney draw right that wasn't at least 3' above the roof line. Just sayin.

There are chimney height requirements and this sounds like it does not meet the minimum! Use the search box in the upper right corner for chimney height.

I DID have a defective CO/Smoke detector that I replaced (free of charge - warranty on those suckers! :D ) Unfortunately, that wasn't the issue.
