Hmmmm.... if this Duke is so good.... How come it's not being used...in anything! No cars, no lawnmowers, no nothing. It just seems if it was all that good that someone would be using it for something. Wasn't it invented in 1993? They talk about all kinds of improvements, but still... no users.

Ilmor, the company that in the past made the Chevy Indy engines and currently makes the Mercedes F1 engines, introduces the new 5-Stroke engine.

And lest we forget Achates Power, in 2012 this company was chosen by the US Military to provide the next generation of military engines for things like tanks. EcoMotors (as seen above) lost out to these guys similar opposed cylinder engine design, and this drove EcoMotors to ink a $200 million deal with China.

The Wankel engine is indeed impressive. I could never understand how they seal the rotor tips.

But it appears the Russians stole the idea from this guy who won an award back in 2005 from NASA for designing it right here in the USA:

Rotarys are great! Very similar to a 2-stroke in sound and power output. Those things can rev to the moon too!

I remember going to the dragstrip 20 years ago, and there were a group of hispanic guys driving these TINY foreign cars. I laughed at them - what the hell are they gonna do with THAT?? Well, after one of them ripped off a 10.23 @120 mph, I wasn't laughing anymore - I instantly gained respect for these things. They all had rotary engines. I was an instant fan!

Interesting designs here .... but, I don't understand why we don't just improve upon what's already out there. Simple and cheap. Take a 2-stroke engine -- look at what Evinrude has done with the E-Tec engine. It rivals 4-strokes in emissions, and it's lighter, faster, AND cheaper. 2-strokes are the way to go IMO. Can't seem to convince any engineers of that fact. Probably because none of them ever work on engines!

And Nissan has this new 400 HP, 3 cylinder engine that weighs only 88 lbs, and meets the size and weight limits for commercial airlines carry-on luggage.
