We get free wood from time to time, free as not paying anything for the wood, maybe drive 5 miles round trip, some can be thrown in as is ,other pieces need to be split. But wood is more work and with an owb lots of wood &lots of work.

Nah, we didn't lose anyone, the old saying " yah' can't lose something yah' never had!" Just think for a minute how board we get after 5 months of figuring out how to burn coal AGAIN! for the umpteenth time and write a 7 page thread on the benefits of a devise we wrote 9 pages on last year....so guess how board a wood burner gets when "THERE OUTTAH WOOD" :eek2: :help: so they step over here and fudge with us. They don't want to burn coal because they're either afraid that when there poker buddies come over they won't have to get a couple logs every time they want a beer or take a piss. They are proud of their wood  I hobbled across the road to say hi to my neighbor, been house bound 3 weeks post foot surgery, and the first thing he said was"thank god I got 9 cord for the winter", his house is 1500 sq mine 1100sq, and I said yeah I know what you mean I burned 2 ton this year.
He was on his way to shoveling 3 ft snow drifts off his wood pile so he can throw half a cord in his cellar window and then go to the cellar to stack it :bang: I opened a bag of coal. He pays about 110 a cord, log length and he has to buck it up split stack...it takes him half the summer You are right joeq "You win, they Lose"

Alright you guys, I'll admit, I too like the smell of a wood fire, and also wish I had a fireplace to watch a flickering log, "for viewing purposes only". But when it comes to heating, when oil costs 50% more to heat my home in the winter, even my little stove makes more heat, and will go longer than a couple logs. But "hey", that's just me. "To each his own". :)
