How can I tell wich one I have?

I think you can tell by the info you listed in your profile. Sounds right to me. How do you like the Harman? Mine works great!

how many separate grates, 2 or 3?

3 would be a Mark III, 2 is either a Mark I or II.

The Mark II is 25" wide and the Mark I is 20" wide.

(or if you stove still has the plate on the lower back corner, it would say there! :) )

Yep - plate on the back has all the info - model, month & year built, clearances, etc...

Mark I has only 2 shaker grates, and is a very small, skinny looking stove - not even 2' wide. Never owned a Mark II, but it's slightly bigger, and the Mark III has 3 shaker grates, and is pretty wide. A good sized stove - VERY heavy - about 500 lbs. + .
