Power vent died....where to purchase new one

Power vent died....where to purchase new one

PostBy: adirondacklady On: Sat Apr 05, 2014 4:43 pm

Ive had my power vent for my Pioneer coal stove for 6 years. This past fall when i turned the power vent on to start up the stove i didnt here it come on for about a minute then all of a sudden it kicked in. Never had any problems with it all winter. Well, we just had a power outage(3rd one this season) and the power vent would not come back on. I went outside and i can see the fan moving a little at a time. I can move the fan with my finger and it moves freely but it continues to move a little at a time, like its trying to get going but wont turn fully. My assumption is its fried. My question is, where can i get a new one just like it? And how much do they run? I planned to shut it down in a couple weeks for the season(have oil furnace too), but its NY and its a very cold and windy day! Wish i had that stove running!!

did you flue switch on the stove trip? or did the fan just die? have you oiled it and cleaned it every season?

Usually there's a switch on the stove that can trip and shut the stove down.

The only switch i have is the col-trol thermostat that controls the feeder. That is working fine. This is just a dial attach to the power box that turns the power vent on and controls the speed of the exhaust. I turn it on but dont hear the motor running even though i can hear it humming outside while the fan is trying to turn. I oil it 3 x a year. Once before i start it up for the season, once during the season, and the once at the end of the burn season. I didnt oil it during the burn season. Temps here have been below zero most of the winter. Do you think if i oil it now, it will run again?

With the power off to the fan and if it then turns freely by hand, the problem is not oil.

Can you measure the voltage coming off the switch to make sure it is supplying enough to the motor ????

And I had a motor that would be slow to start. I would have to jump start it by turning on the power and manually turning the blade and then it would finally get up to speed.

But if you wish to replace it ASAP, try a Leisure Line dealer. They probably stock them.

I had a FCU (Fan Coil Unit) with a bum motor, I disassembled the fan and took the motor to a local motor shop. It turned out to be a broken wire in the motor, simple fix cost me $20 for the fix. I reassemble the fan blade to the motor and than installed it on the FCU for future use in the new shop.

you might just be able to replace the motor itself and not the entire unit,

you can check out www.electricmotorwarehouse.com the have a lot of replacement motors.

Just get the model number off the motor/blower assembly. Sometimes you can find them on eBay also.

When is the last time the motor was out to clean it? Could it be full of fly ash?

Unless you are cold and the fact is you need something right away to get the heat going again........ :cry2:

I was under the ASSumption that her PV quit entirely. Now if she needed heat right away, the quickest would have been going to a LL dealer since I believe most of their dealers would stock a PV.

But yeah, if time didn't matter, you can get anything shipped nowadays.

Hope she got everything straightened out.

I am not in immediate need to get my power vent fixed. I had planned to shut it down in 2 weeks anyways. My brother in law is good with motors. So, i will have him take a look at it and see if i need a new PV or just part of the motor. I will let you all know how things work out with it. Thanks for the replies. Thats what i love about this forum!
