The left side should look like the right side with the rounded half opening on the bottom, the center would appear to have a vertical rectangular slot, seems like it has something to do with the grate shafts coming out thru it...left & right grate, turn them ,center shaft slides in & out ??

I agree with Dave.

The broken left side of it should mirror the unbroken right side.

I'll bet those two half round openings are for the two grate bars. With the ring grate handle protruding through the rectangular opening in between the two half round openings.

Plus, those are hinge pins on either end. My guess is that is some kind of swing-up cover, or shield that goes above and inside of where the grate bars and ring shaker handle stick out of the stove ????

Look inside the lower part of the stove for the two holes that those hinge pins would fit into.

There's also the possibility that part is not from this stove ?

Reminds me of the time,my older brother did that to me on my first motor rebuild. He snuck in four long grade 8 bolts into the parts washing tank. They were similar in size to the main cap bolts. Looked like they were meant to hold something very critical. Had me double checking and head scratching for a few hours.

Finally, just went ahead and finished putting the motor back in, then said a prayer and started it up. Ran great until I took the car off the road 150,000 miles later. :D

It took 150k to figure out where the bolts came from ?? those bolts could have doubled the life of that engine :) Paul , you could be right about that part being for a stove he did not buy,is there no one else with the same stove to compare & verify??
