Humidifiers

Someone posted a while back that the steamers folks use on woodstoves don't really do much on the coal burners. Anyone have other ideas for getting a little moisture in the room, other than a separate humidifier?

I have considered designing one for my Alaska channing, It can be done. I will start on it in the spring when I shut down.

Going to get a console humidifier hopefully this weekend.

I have digital Humidistat and it reads "LL" most of the time, it only goes as low as 25%....Static City!

why doesnt it work on your hand fired. i have a stock pot full of water on mine and it works just fine. its not sitting directly on top of the stove. its sitting on top of some bricks. i also put in some pine-sol to give the rooms a nice pine scent. unless theres no room for a pot or the stove doesnt get hot on the top i cant see there being a prob doing it.

my 150 goes through around 3 gallons of water a day.

although it doesn't help, my humidistat is always pinned on the bottom and i end up with a lot of minerals inside the pan.

we've been looking at console humidifiers.

anyone have one that works well and has so for more than a few years?

I have a Skuttle Brand steam humidifier on my cold air return to my furnace, run's on 220. Eat's a lot of electricity' but does a good job. I used to get a lot of mineral deposits in it and had to clean it out once a month.

Last year I put a water filter and automatic fushing drain on it and only had to clean it at the end of the season.

But if I could design one for my coal stove I could save a lot of electric.

That's what I have in the basement hall & I just add water (about 5 gallons a day) & bacteriastat to it & my entire home has proper humidification.

One thing I noticed on the Console ones, get one with Easy fill tanks, that fit nicely under the faucet.
My old sears one worked great for years, I think it was 14 gallon, the tanks each held 6 gallon, it just finally gave up.

Looking at one at Lowes like attached.

That's the one I have. It's about 6 years old & very easy to fill with a bucket. As long as you use bacteriastat, you only have to clean it out & throw away the pads at the end of the heating season. (I find I really only need to run mine in Massachusetts for about 3 months anyway)

my sump pump took a vaction and i had about 4" of water in the basement. took care of any moisture problems. been ruff week here. lol i use a foil container you put a turkey in on top of the stove. been working nice.

Worked well...has a large filter paper transfer device that you toss at the end of the season. You can buy them for a lot less than the site I linked if you look a bit.

I have the same model ACE harware stores can order/carry them. Very effective and I've had mine for 6 years and runs great. It comes with a hose that slips over just about any kitche faucet to fill the bottles.

ahhhh. finally some humidity, ended up with the one above, but from Sears, bascially the same thing for the same price. It's up to 41% so far, and it was 25% or below....

The cats don't get shocked anymore.!!

You can tell he's a happy cat now!!
