Good day! Please, come in, have a hot beverage & share a thought. Coffee is a bit late as I slept in for the first time in 3,000 days..... I guess spending the evening in the ER and getting blasted with antibiotics will do that. Yesterday afternoon my arm started itching....an internal itch that I get once a year when I get bitten by an odd mosquito, but, there are no mosquitoes yet. I got over it but a few hours later I noticed my hand starting to swell. Slowly, but continuously, it got larger and puffier. I took some Benydril & put it on ice for two hours. I woke at 8:30 or so & it's even larger! I didn't want to wake up with a basketball for a hand so I got a babysitter for Marty & off to the ER I went. An x-ray showed no broken bones, BUT, it did find a piece of shrapnel...a piece of metal imbedded near my little finger...see the X-ray. The Dr thinks it did not cause this infection as there is no wound. He's thinking a crack in my skin let some creepy germ sneak in. However, he's sending me to a surgeon to get the shrapnel removed! I hope it can wait a couple of weeks. I've got work to do! I did finish & deliver a chair yesterday. Now, two boat seat jobs & I'm "retired" until God calls Martys name. I suppose....the the surgeon says "NOW".... perhaps I have done my last job for now. Odd thought.... Anyway..... Blueberry pancakes & that jar of home made maple syrup waits....and they won't wait long!

I hope you all have a smooth weekend. We are hoping to go up north to the cabin & spend a night. Still ice on the pond, but the road is plowed.

Later!

Fred

If it isn't one thing, it's three things.
While your on antibiotics get out the pocket knife !
It doesn't look too deep.
Not much activity today. They all must be out fishing.

Morning!
60f outside and many chores to do! Supposed to reach 80f today.
Freddy, how did u get a copy of your xray????
A friend's leg swelled up like that. No pain, just doubled the size of his calf. He had to take antibiotics for almost a year. It was a HUGE Lyme disease infection. At the levels they found in his system, the doc says he should have been dead! We teased him that he has been the walking dead for years! Seriously, he felt no pain. No symptoms at all.

Got in the parts for my Wife's Subaru, so getting the transfer case back on her car is priority this morning.

I already mowed the grass twice this year. Oh, I like the smell of freshly cut grass in the spring.

Yeah going out, starts at 8 am. Spent $12 yesterday on worms and wax and meal worms. Have the Mustang half apart, front left brakes are sticking. Car sits for 6-8 months over the winter. I did both front calipers 3 years ago on its first spring drive and now it's doing it again. Bought 2 rebuilt calipers, installed and drivers front is still locking up. No pressure, just pistons sticking on a rebuilt caliper. I have the rebuild kit but trying to find a air fitting for the banjo bolt so I can blow the pistons out, pain in the..................

My oldest turned 13 on March 13th and we're just getting around to his party today. 15 kids at a Dave & Busters playing video games. What more could a new teenager want? :)

At some point, I have to find time to dig into the wife's van. We're making a quick blast down to her family in Kentucky and if there's one thing I dread more than a 17 hour car ride, it's a 17 hour car ride with no brakes!

And then there's the pre season maintenance on the mower. One the swamp dries enough, it'll be time to start that Sisyphean task....

Looks like a good weather weekend in NEPA country so I hope everyone gets out and enjoys it.

Now...where's my coffee cup?

Good morning all!
Looks like a couple chores this morning, clean up around wood pile area, bring a load of wood over from the wood lot. Yeah, back to 100% wood in the OWB. Had been running coal during the cold spell but I can't keep fire now, too warm outside.
Driving to Berwick PA (2.5 hrs) to see one of the kids in a school thing so most of the day will be shot chore wise but the kids are only young once.
Everybody enjoy your day and the beauty of spring!

Mornin all. Coffee is good.
Cuticles(and the skin right behind them)are a great entrance point for germs. Mine crack all the time when the humidity is low. Both of my index fingers are that way as I type.

Busy day today for me again. Must run to town to pick up a swing set for my grandson. Need to work on the chicken coop and the brooder. Just purchased 2 rabbits yesterday. Looks like we are starting a small farm after all. And it looks like I'll be going to an auction this evening.

Take care and be safe everyone.

Morning all....Freddy, I've seen the effects of a staph infection a couple times that look just like your hand.

I'm thinking about heading out for 18 today since I got some of the planned weekend chores done in the evenings this week.

I was away a couple days early in the week so last sunday I shut down the stoker since the temps had come up pretty good. I vac'ed it out good yesterday and need to disconnect the flue pipe sometime this weekend and brush out the chimney. I have noticed some gummy buildup on the stove body where the rope gasket touches around the firebox door. Never had that in all the years of burning, I'll clean that off somehow this weekend so it isn't on there all summer.
I'm still working on raking all the stone back into the driveway from the grass where I got a little too deep on some of the snow removal - I have about 50 yards to go along the low side. Next year I plan on piling it in one corner of the parking area so the stone will end up in a single pile and I can just back drag it with the loader.

I may end up prepping and running the mower this weekend to cut those few high patches of grass.

Good Morning one & all, seems everyone has their day plans & are ready to go. I had built a small 8X12 deck about 7ft. high in the garage so once I tack down the flooring I'll have an out of the way place to store kayaks & such. Other than that not too sure about much else my son & grandson are coming up & staying here for the college experience & tour weekend at Allegheny College. The grandson doesn't want to acquire too much debt so asked if he could eat & bunk here for 4 years to save a few big bucks, so I'll have someone here as a regular. Hope everyone has a good safe day. Freddy, you have to take good care of yourself as well, my theory is that strange thing happen as we age. I recall a time when we were using a magnet on a crane to position some ironwork in the steelmill & the magnet pulled some shrapnel out of me, not a painless procedure but cheap & quick.

Blueberry pancakes & maple syrup, good start to a beautiful spring day. Freddy,it won't hurt to ask your doc for a treatment of meds for lyme, I've been on natural stuff fighting lyme for nearly 10 yrs. now, some days are good ,some are bad,but all winter was bad for me with my kidneys going on vacation, herbal stuff has them working since early March & just in time for our spring rush. Our lawn & garden equipment repair shop usually gets swamped mid march,we are busy but did not have the panic attack hit , (yet), today's nice weather/temps just might bring it on,so we are expecting a very busy day here. Busy & or crazy busy,by 4 pm when we close we will have that answer. Nice yellow cabin & WOW on the lake view pic :!: :)

I like Sam's magnet idea Freddy, cheaper then a surgeon. They use them for metal in the eye don't they? I have also mowed twice now and the leaves are nearly full out. Wish I could set up a hive and tend some bee's but not in the plans yet. Working for a pair of Dr.s today and start classes for my new job on Mon. That should be interesting. Just awesome weekend here, 80 for the next 2 days.
Get out and enjoy the weekend, winter is coming fast for you northern guys! :P

Good morning all,

My gosh Freddy - What's the back story on that piece of shrapnel; do you have any idea how it got there, if not make something dramatic and historical up. We love a good story.

I'm stopping by on the way out the door. Lots and lots on the calendar today. School's out for spring break and I'm heading for Williamsburg to spend sometime with my mom and my new grandson. We'll have four generations altogether under one roof. This is my mom's first great, grandchild. I'll leave it to you to imagine how old that makes her or me for that matter. ;)

Before I go I have to wash the dogs, clean their kennels - ok, I'm paying some girls from the church to do that who are earning money for Girls' Camp, but I'm supervising. I have to go into the hive and see if those girls are ready for the honey flow, finish the clean up from winter in the front of the house and get the ash out of the stoves so I can do the after season maintenance next weekend. I'm sure one or two other things will pop up somewhere along the line.

Take care, Lisa

Good morning! Lets see, just a few things on the list. Ceiling to paint, molding to paint, outlets to replace, holes to fill in the wall....should keep me busy for a few hours.

Snow is 90% gone, birds are singing...probably safe to take the plow off the truck.

ROB !! WARNING !! A sure way to guarantee a late April Blizzard with 24" of snow is to take the plow off the truck !! Don't do it !!
Wait till May !!

warm here today, forecast to be 68*.. The grass is turning green, I need to get the rake and put the rocks back on the driveway. Funny how they migrate under the snow..

Lots and Lots of projects.
The engine overhaul for the '25 Pierce is going well, I should start assembly in May. The crank is ground, Cylinders bored and honed to fit the pistons, much of the valve job is done, I'm waiting on a few valves to show up in the mail.
The crankcase and main bearings are down at the re-babbitting shop, I should have those back in about 2 weeks. maybe a bit sooner.
I've spent some time on the '41 Plymouth pickup, got it running again, letting the carb sit for a few months with 'SeaFoam' and gasoline in it, pumping the throttle every few weeks and refilling with 'seafoam' has done the trick on the accellerator pump,, it had some dried gummy gasoline on some of the check balls.. now it works great.
I'm removing the thermostat housing and replacing the seeping gaskets, then I'll take it for a springtime drive.

I tried to drive a tractor over the high ridges in the ruts in the grass, aka; lawn, but it didn't work very well.. a bit of rain is forecast for tonight, so maybe I'll try again tomorrow.

OK, time to give the dog a bath,, he jumped into the pond this morning,, he thought it was great fun..  I didn't..

Fred: take care of that arm/hand.. what are you allergic to?

Greg L
