Economics lesson for those who love taxation

Economics lesson for those who love taxation

PostBy: lsayre On: Thu Apr 17, 2014 5:26 pm

Mark Simone was sitting in for Sean Hanity on his radio program today and he made a great analogy to a listener. The listener was asked:

Are cigarettes always being taxed at higher and higher levels to increase cigarettes or decrease cigarettes?

Then he asked:

Will business increase or decrease as business taxes are raised higher and higher?

And then he asked:

Why is a Democrats response typically different for these two examples?

Maybe I don't get out enough, but I have yet to meet anyone who "loves taxation".

There are many who would love to see much higher taxes on businesses. Soak the rich is their motto.

I don't know Isayre, the only one's I hear saying anything about soaking the rich are the right, as far as I have ever heard it's more of let the rich pay their share coming from the left.

Expound upon the right speaking of soaking the rich. Also define "fair share". Would you personally like to see more taxation on businesses and/or business owners? And what is your thought (position) regarding Mark Simone's logic as seen above?

All the ones I hear complaining are libs always assuming the rich evil capitalists are only on the right. They conveniently leave out all the wealthy, fat-cats on the left.

So are you saying the rich think we should soak the rich ?

Yeah, that's rich alright ! :D

Didn't say that at all to either of you, I simply pointed out that I hear that the top should pay more from the left (their share) while the right complains all the time that the left is actually saying the left wants to rob the wealthy. Just another example of media twists both printed & the talking heads. I have heard some of the wealthy even publicly state that they should be taxed differently. To my way of thinking earnings or income better still should be income even if nothing was done to earn it.

Straight tax. Everyone pays the same for income no special deductions or tax rates.

Eliminate all income taxes, increase the sales tax rate,If a person can't afford the taxes on a $5000.00 TV They just don't buy that TV,can't afford the tax on a $200.00 TV ,don't buy it, would be a more fair taxation all around.

I think there would have to be some type of graduation in rates, if you make 1K & pay a 10% tax you really feel it but if you make 1B you pay a lot more but can still manage to get by without pain.
The sales tax sounds good but really hurts those that have to spend every dime earned, if you can afford to send a few million off shore or if taxed that way you wouldn't need to but you are not spending your paycheck to live.

Sales tax rate would be the same for everyone,no tax on food & other life essentials, can't afford the tax on a $200.00 Tv don't buy it, it is not essential to living.Sales tax is the only fair way to "make the rich pay their share",our personal tastes/desires & income would decide how much we each would pay in taxes, too poor to pay taxes, you just don't get to fill your wish list .

You think someone paying 100 million a year should pay even more? Just not clear in what you are saying.

I like this . But it would never happen because the people would have too much control.

I'll tell you something that happened years ago Flyer, I was talking to a good friend that at that time was close if not a millionaire, first he was bragging about the tax he got out of paying & then went into a rage about what he ended up paying which was way more than me several times over. I said I'll tell you what, you live off of my wages & I'll take yours, pay both our taxes & even give you half back. He looked at me while thinking & said never mind I get where your going & left it at that, never said anything about taxes to me again. But to answer you why not more than 100 mil. if that's a strain for you to live on 900 mil. a year shame on you. As far as the sales tax it wouldn't be fair, you only need a car if you can't get to public trans., even if you buy a new BMW or what ever every year it isn't going to hurt a millionaire but the poor guy buying a clunker is going to struggle. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying the poor deserve a BMW nor should the rich buy one for him but he could well afford to pay a bit more for the use of services we all use. If they both were to call for police or a fire who do you think will get the better response?
