Just for fun.

Just for fun.

PostBy: StokerDon On: Sat Apr 19, 2014 10:17 am

Yesterday afternoon I decided to put together my spare Yellow Flame 3 grate stoker. I had enough spare parts except for a couple linkage parts, I used a couple bolts, washers and nuts as a subsititute. I assembled it all on a furneture dolly with 6x6's and 16"x16" pavers to boost it up a bit. I clamped a couple pieces of steel to the base and the feeder castings to hold them in place. Then I wheeled it outside the garage, put some coal in it and lit it!

I didn't have all the parts, or time a month ago. I still have get some new grates and side rails. You can see in one of the photos, that shows the ends of the grates, how warped they are. They are my current spares.

Great way to exercise your options/backup equipment . Nice sharp pictures too. Keep it up and you will become our resident YF expert and go to guy!! By the way can you determine if Yellow Flame used nickel welding rods on their hoppers? Mike

Mike,

How would I be able to tell if the hopper was welded with nickel?

I can say one thing about the hoppers; The one that came with my boiler is gavinized sheet and looked almost new after clean up, no rust, no holes, some slight surface corrosion at the bottom. I cleaned it, wire wheeled it, cleaned it again and painted it. ready for another 30 years!

The hopper that I just got is rusted out, I will open it up and post some photos. They don't realy look like they are welded, looks like they are folded and crimped?
