Oh and the devil is in the details! You must register for a GIFT CARD? Name, address... oh I know where this is going. So tell me Mrs. Smith do any of your neighbors burn wood?...and could you repeat your address, thank you have a nice day (for turning in your neighbor)........... and that additional gift card should be in the mail in 3 to 5 days.
Sell your sole for 2 hundred bucks! If I am wrong please explain the reason for needing an I.D. and preregistering for being a snitch? You know what we do to snitches!!!

"......................
Participants are required to deliver their uncertified stove or non-Phase II compliant OWB to the swimming pool parking lot on S. Ridge Drive in North Park between the hours of 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2014. Stoves and OWB will not be accepted outside of the specified time. Preregistered participants will be responsible for unloading their wood-burning device at the site. Please plan accordingly. ............................"

They want to clean up the environment, huh ? Not sure they thought this through, . . Next thing you know, the pool will be shut down for the season because it's been designated an EPA super fund clean up site because someone dumped an asbestos coated old steam boiler !

Meantime, what proof do they have all those stoves are scrapped and out of action ? Do the scrap guys get to pick though and re-sell the collectable stoves later ?

$200.00 is not much incentive to lug a heavy stove down there when the stove might bring more on Craig's List and likely be removed by the buyer. Plus, have they looked at the cost of replacing a stove with a new EPA certified equivalent ? My small EPA cert wood stove cost more than my kitchen coal range.

Like the gun buy back programs, all they do is waste tax payer money to get rid of junk that most likely isn't being used, or is broken and can't be used.

I think the ID is just so no one from outside that county gets in on it. Last town I lived in, early on in the recycling days, had a dump program. They found a lot of people from outside the area were sneaking in to use it ,rather than pay extra to their local garbage pick up.

Even the garbage trucks here were driving farther to the county north of us to dump, when our county raised their tipping fees after building a new dump. Found out they were loosing money to other counties by charging more. Dropped their rates to match and were making money again. Somehow, economics and civil service never seem to mix well !

We have truly entered into an alternate, twilight zone reality. And you will find that a lot of people would sell their children or cut their own throats for a free buck if they could.
Or "Cash for Caulkers"....or the many first time home buyer programs. It doesn't take a fella very long to see a pattern of stupidity.

Big Government is here to save you.

Great idea... but what they don't show us behind the parking lot staging area is the fleet of trucks being loaded that say "Stove Hospital" & "Barnstable Stove Shop" on the side of them toothy ... its a conspiracy :fear:

Surprised me last year they got one outside boiler & 59 wood stoves, it doesn't say they have to be operational just like when they have the gun buys if you have a piece of junk sell it. :)

What some enterprising individual might do is like a guy did at a gun buy back program. He brought a lot of cash and stood outside offering to buy any antique guns that showed up, for more than the program was paying.

Hang a sign around your neck that reads, 10% more cash for base burners ! :D
