hello eveyone,
i'm new at burning coal. i have an alaska stoker stove that burns rice coal. i have a barometric damper installed, but it is not working properly. it seems that all my heat is going up my chimney instead of into my house. i would appreciate any advice on how to get it working better and getting more heat out of the stove. what can i do to make it heat better? what can i do to make it safer?(besides a co2 detector) what can i do to make it the coal burn more efficiently? i would really apprecaite some help!!!

You need to calibrate your baro-damper with a manometer. if you don't have one, there is a list you can sign up on.

theres an manometer loaner program on the forum so people can check their draft.....if your baro is rusted or damaged i would suggest buying a new one.....the new baro damper can be had on ebay for around 30 dollars shipped or at a hardware store for 40-50 dollars.......i got my manometer on ebay for 27 dollars shipped.......also how are you running the stove? one problem with the old triburner stokers is that when you adjust the rheostat to control feed speed it also slows down the combustion fan (on the same motor) user matthaus gave me a broan bathroom fan that mounts under the fresh air intake on the stoker unit and gives it combustion air full time.....it took some adjusting, and tearing my stove apart and doing a mid winter cleanout and some new gaskets, but it's burning hot and i'm not wasting coal......i've only had this alaska since nov 2006, i'm still learining, but i dont mind....its fun!
welcome to the forum btw!
