 SUPER lean!

Well, I had outfire last night with plenty of coal! Ashpan was full to the brim with at least 40 lbs. of coal. First time that's happened. Guess I've got to bump the idle feed rate up a bit in the 80° and up temps. May even need a draft inducer. There's been .005" of draft, tops. Not sure I want to get into that - would be easier & cheaper to just let the oil burner run for the next 4 months.

Just vacuumed about 3 lbs. of flyash and fines out from under the burn plate! Sucker was packed! Was wondering how it was running without my strips of paper restricting airflow - usually without the strips, I'll get CO out of the hopper. Blew out the fan, oiled the bearings and buttoned it back up. Now to poke thru the holes from the top (should've done that first .. ), clean my connector pipe, and relight - we'll see what happens.

I finally did the clean out on my bad boy this morning, damn it was dirty. I let it go a couple of extra months due to the cold nights we were having, made a difference. All back together and re lit!! Hot showers again tonight!! I was wondering how long it would be before I had to replace anything, I have my answer. Now but will do it in the Fall!

Hey Smitty, I had a problem with out fires and I think it was Rob that first suggested a timer for running the fan every hour for 2 minutes. It is not enough to cause an over heat but it is plenty enough to keep the fire lite and a draft going. I have seen them at HD now in the electrical dept. Cheaper than the one I got on line.

I shut the beast down the evening of June first. That's the latest ever, so much for global warming. :D

Thanks Builder. I've been monitoring the boiler closely since the cleanout, and it's running 10x better! Everything is hotter, fire is brighter, and seems to be using even less coal than before. Got a big pile of flyash out of the connector pipe too. Guess it was long overdue. :)
