Stoker Coal Boiler: Keystoker ka6
Coal Size/Type: buckwheat

Just got my new ka6 in February (replaced oil boiler) and still getting familiar with it. Now that it's warmer during the day and not calling for heat but colder at nights I have a problem with the fire going out in the middle of the night and waking up to cold in the morning.

I have the nut back about 12 turns, 6 pins on zero and 6 pins on 15, aqua stat at 200, main motor draft open finger width and small (24/7)motor open half. . (same settings as winter).

What should I adjust things to, so I do not have to babysit this thing but keep it going so I have heat at night if called for. I've had to refire 3 times in the past 3 weeks.

I have read thru some topics but being new I don't understand alot of the advice given.

Burning buckwheat and thermostat at 70.. Will not be using it for domestic hot water in the summer

Since you are burning buck, you will need to run the timer more often, such as every 10 minutes.

so pins at 0,10 and 20? How many pIns? I see some people are turning the aquastat back to 150 180 should I do that or as my 200 fine? I guess my follow up to that be what would that do other than keep the temperature of the boiler down lower than what it is now

Try 5 pins. Reducing the aquastat setttings is fine.

You might have your setting too high and with no or very little heat load it's coasting past the setting and hitting the high limit setting. Suggest you lower your settings to a summer 150-180 with at least 4 or 5 pins every 10 minutes.

My red nut is backed off 6 turns. In the cold weather I have one pin at 0 10 20. When the it gets warmer I use one pin at 0 7.5 15 22.5. I'm using buckwheat too.

I have a two story home and a new chimney only for the KA6.

If you are going taking a trip to Easton Pa. I'm only ten minutes into New Jersey :-)
