Now I'm letter her die out - 5-3-14

Might have a handful of cold nights but that's what blankets are for !

Shutting 'er down....

Need to clean, and see how my Hitzer 503 hopper looks (not well from what I can see) ~ I'll post some pics of the carnage...

I'll likely get a new hopper and weld some stainless to it and see how that performs ...

Pic of the Hitzer 503 hopper after this season....I had this issue before and Dean provided a slightly modified hopper but the modified design seemed to have little effect on the corrosion issue. Is it simple corrosion or heat or both. I never ran the stove hot hot, max. temp on top was 350-375 F. Its a pickle ... I'll get a new hopper and weld some SS plate on it (maybe 1/8" or 3/16" in thickness).. this may make it worse with the extra weight but the world will not quit revolving if it does.

I wonder if the banking of the coal had this effect? The force applied doing this would be greatest on the rear plate.

Anyone experience this before?

Another call to the master Dean @ Hitzer I guess !

Estimated $$ savings of coal v. oil at $2500 this season ... since I got the stove ... $13,500...cost of stove and installation ~ $5000 .... ROI in 6 yrs $8,500 .. and that don't suck.

If only I could teach my cat to tend it ... stupid cat!

I did teach the cat to use the toilet though .... cost of equipment to teach $25 .... savings on litter : $20/mo ... cat is 4 yrs old...ROI: $960 ... savings of $935 bucks so far.
(and no stink).

That's awesome.. I had a cat that used the toilet too haha..

I also had my rear liner burn thru last winter. I determined lack of air circulation behind it was the culprit since I was stuffing fiberglass behind it. I've since changed the location of the fiberglass. No problem this winter.

I'm letting my fire go out on Wednesday. This is the first year I burned past May 1st.

It's going to be in the low 50s tomorrow. I think I'll keep her going a while longer.
