It's Dead...

Well, I finally let the stove go out. I stopped feeding Thursday May 1st. Mainly because I ran out of coal and my wife gave the order, 'It's time. Just let it go.' she said. By Friday May 9th, it was cold. When I woke Friday morning the 9th there was quite a bit of red left in the box. By the time I got home that evening it was out but the stove was still warm to the touch. By Saturday the 10th, it was cold. My 4 year old little girl was not happy. The house was 69* and she sat in her favorite spot in front of the stove and immediately began complaining. 'I'm cold.', she kept saying. I had to explain to her that the stove was off. She started to cry. 'But I want to sit in front of the stove and get warm.' By Saturday evening she kept asking if the stove was, "Back on." and I kept telling her no. This went on through Mother's Day and she even tried pleading with me to relight the stove but I kept telling her we are out of coal until next season.

That is bitter sweet IOF, maybe you can explain to the little princess that she will soon be in charge of the stove when she gets older!

Just wait until she gets a little older.........you think you are tough???? She will have you whipped into a large fluffy marshmallow...count on it!
Mother Nature seems to be coming around and the warmth of the sun should help a little.

Bit of a cool trend coming my way. Lows around 40 and highs reaching 60.. I may fire up for a span of 4-5 days.

Awww... poor girl.. sounds like she really likes that stove..

We've had some chilly mornings of 64 or so degrees in the house since my fire went out a few days ago. I don't mind it but the female unit finds no humor in it..

She does. She loves sitting by it. She even helps fill the coal bucket and she's helped me put it in the stove. Some times when I get home the bucket would be full to the top. When I ask my wife if she filled it she just points to our daughter.

Yes I let Nicoal have her summertime slumber this morning. She had a good long run 10/22/13 till 5/12/14 6775 lbs. Record for this Keystoker in one season.

It is 64 by the water here in CT and wearing tee shirt and levis LOL. The warmer you keep the house the warmer you require it to be to feel 'normal'. As drafty as my old house is 72 in the winter feels good but once over 60 outside all is good. Time to slowly toughen the crew up. By the same token I sleep best with the bedroom at 55 rather than warm. During the day I get a lot of solar heat gain is pretty good and mid 60's is just fine, once the sun goes down 72 in the main part of the living space is nice.

Better watch out. Kids are getting less intolerant these days. Might have DYS pounding on your door soon.

What's funny is the stove has been out for about a month, I've yet to disconnect it from the chimney or clean it and she still wakes up every morning and plops down in front of it. She's since stopped asking about turning it back on but she misses it. If I had some wood I'd clean it out and get a wood fire going, it's chilly in here this morning. It's about 50* in the house this morning.

Raining and chilly here yesterday. Rather than run the more expensive house furnace to keep the damp chill out, I started the range back up again.

When my gal got home from work, she walked through the back door, felt that warm kitchen air and smiled ! Makes for a really nice TGIF end to a week !

Then she opened the oven door to check and found the meatloaf I had baking. That caused an even bigger smile knowing dinner was already cooking.

Amazing what the proper use of a bucket of coal can do for improving the attitude of the women in your life.
