Been a busy heating season for me. KA-6 has been flawless and I'm still burning. Have about 800 lbs left. Double shop vac set up per Wiz's design has helped me through the entire heating season without shoveling one piece of coal out of 7.5 tons. Double dust deputies. Shop vacs with bags. Have not changed the bags yet or dump the dust deputy buckets. Expensive to set up. But, I have not had a moments problems or shoveling . Now about those ashes......

Hey Steve, I let my hand fed furnace go out about a week ago. Cool spell starting tomorrow for several days with mid 30s at night. I'm gonna fire back up most likely for a few days.

With the cost of oil I'm still burning. May be in June I'll shut down, we'll see.

Me too - like the Energizer bunny ...
There will be that much less rust I'll have to scrape and paint over next season. Plus if it gets cold, I just twist the T-stat. Best of all, my money stays in the USA.

One hand fed fire still going on match #1. Full size fire box, not downsized. The fire in the Vigilant II has been crawling along for the past several weeks. I didn't add coal for 36 hrs, didn't shake for 48. Thought it'd be out this am but NOOOOoooo, still chugging along. I had a half a hod of coal left and threw it on. Pics are what it looked like 12 hrs later. stack temp is 115, stove top 250 and the chimney collar is 130-140. It's amazing me. We're enjoying the mid 70's house temps and manage the little excess with windowstats and a couple of fans to stir the air. How much longer can this go on? The current forecast says thru the 25th!
