We just bought 11 acres and are going to start doing some large scale gardening and small scale farming. The stove that we're getting is made by D.S. Machine. Never heard of them, but its what the Amish are heating their homes with in this area. The unit requires no electricity to operate (hopper fed, but no auger, no blower, etc.). Unit will be in the basement in the center of the house and will gravity flow through a 24"X30" grate that is hooded directly above the stove. Cold-air returns are on the perimeter of the house for return air to the basement.

Just found a local source of Blaschak coal and have 10 tons on the way. Price for nut is currently $205/ton delivered for bulk and $237/ton bagged.

Anybody know anything about D.S. Machine? P.S. if anyone sees der Bishop, don't tell him I'm using der computer...OK? :P
Amishdude...it has been almost a year since you have made this post...how about an update on the amish coal stove...sounds really neat...RC :)

Redcoals,
DS Machine is located in Gordonville PA. 717-768-3853 ask for Amos. This is where the stoves are made, Amos can tell of a distributer near you. I just ordered mine on Friday.-----Frank Robinson

I saw a posting on E-bay from a dealer selling these stoves. Based on the phone area code, looks like he's in eastern New York. Says he's the first authorized dealer in N.Y.

Looks like a nice solid no frills stove. This dealer is about 60 miles from me. Can anyone compare this brand to others, like Harman and Alaska models?

A friend has one, its a fairly solid stove, they make some that are hopper fed too. The only problem he has had is the door warped a little when it got too hot.

For the same money I pesonally would go with the Hitzer brand.

Looked at the D.S. stoves and was impressed. 96,000 BTU installed for $1,700. What about the Alaskan Kodiak stove, should I look at those?

Good luck with your stove and your lifestyle. I have a lot of respect for the Amish. I think you got a good price.

Hey Baldeagle, I live near akron Ohio. I went and looked at Hitzer's and Harmens today, in a small amish town called Middilfield. I liked the Hitzer 50-93. But still thinking about the D.S. circulator. The only down side that I can tell is that the D.S. does not have a blower, its not even an option. Not sure if thats a big deal. The D.S sells a lot of stoves to the amish, there a well built stove with no bells or whistles. Just don't know anyone who owns one. Wish I could find out if there as good as the other big brand names.

I hope that stove pipe isn't galvanized! Opps, I should of looked at the date of the original posts before I put my two cents in.
