Dear God What Is This?

Had to smash one looking just exactly the same here this evening.
Noticed it on inside of window screen after I came in from outside.
It had a very strong exoskeleton...it made a crunching noise as I smashed it against the window frame.
Late May would be still early for start of colony and population will not peak till later around late August.

I had a nest of those big yellow jacket lookin things in my roof a couple years ago. They were HUGE and looked exactly like the one in the picture. Frightened the hell outta me too.. I would watch them fly in and fly out. I couldn't believe they were so big. Sounded like a piper cub flying overhead.. Once in a while one would float thru my gazebo area and everyone would be like OMG! What the hell was that! They never pursued anyone or seemed aggressive. I just left them alone..

I’m good for one or two of those pricks in the house every summer. The wife freaks out. I found the easiest way to dispatch of them is with a vacuum cleaner, just suck them up when they buzz around a light

Guy that came today have a quote of $299. He said he saw no evidence of a best or more of them. He said he thinks it got in through a home in the wall; of which we have a lot, and once it was in it tried to get back out but got confused on how it got in. He said if we see more of them or evidence of them swarming around a hole to call him back and he'll take care of it.waldo lemieux wrote:Dude,

Little beekeeping story...when my son was like 3 or 4 years old I started to take him along to one of the out-yard with me. He would stay in the truck and sit in his car seat while I got into a few hives for inspections and manipulations. To be sure he didn't get bored while sitting in the truck I would first catch a drone bee or two and pull off one wing then give the drone bee to the son to play with.
This all worked out pretty well as I never heard a peep out of him...but after some time I went over to the truck for a closer check and the drone bee was nowhere to be found except for a bee wing stuck on the boy's lips...never knew for sure what he did with that bee.

i rolled over a nest of lil' yellow buggers while mowing moms lawn last year (no shirt on), I freeking ran like a lil' girl, arms flailing, screaming into the house (there is absolutely zero chance of standing your ground with 100's of these aggressive buggers on you), whats really messed up is these things remember you and hunt you down like a dog... I clean up my wounds, ice, solarcane, etc. and after an hour or so mom comes and goes to store for some ointment crap no problem... I rest up and recover for a few... go to head out to my truck and whos waiting for me... 100's of bees licking their chops ready to kill me I run back in house... mom goes to investigate (no problem's, she like just a few friendly bee's flying around)... Im like WTF! ... I get my keys ready in hand and make a mad dash for the truck as fast as I can.... get in it and look out the window to a swarms of these lil' bastards bouncing off my windows! thats just not normal man... idk wtf was going on but seriously was questioning the whole food chain that day, Been paranoid to mow a lawn ever since...SMITTY wrote:I usually mow over an underground bees nest (yellow jackets usually) and have to hop off the mower and run! Sucks with no safety devices - gotta watch the toes ...
Every so often I'll bump a paper nest with my shoulder while mowing .... great exercise!
