I was at T.R.s hunting camp several times & it was all set up to house a Company or two with mortar pits, what were artillery placements guard towers & surrounded with high walls with broken glass imbedded in the tops. I don't know if troops stayed there all the time but everything was sized for U.S. troops. Except for the war the compound was really a beautiful place, there was a lot of money put into it.

Now you have me confused Sam. First you say it is the war profiteers, and now this blogspot that says nothing about privateers. I bet you came home from that war with a tidy bundle.

The blogspot has facts, but like a Japanese painting the message can be in the blank parts. The first mistake was by Ike who reneged on the agreement to hold free elections in Vietnam. The domino theory was believed at the time and few had faith in capitalism or recognized the weakness of communism, so we had the gradual escalation into outright war. I do have the feeling that JFK would not have gone that far if he had lived. He did have a pragmatic streak in him when not campaigning, unlike LBJ who when he was not bullying lived in neverland.

Franco, enlisted men had a hard time bringing much home. The one place I was stationed was next to an old rubber plantation (Goodyear or B.F. Goodrich) they were both there. After a firefight guys with white coveralls & clipboards would come out to inspect the trees for new holes & other damage, mark them & we were told our Gov. would pay for damage done, & they didn't really use much rubber by this time but they were American companies & I had said before about Westinghouse & their reactor which by the way was refitted & used for a time after the war but we paid for that as well. Back then stopping the communist hoard was the big fear factor, Mother Russia, Atomic bombs, we have always been threatened by some unseen fear while others used it to profit just as today.

"..............they didn't really use much rubber by this time ........"

So your jeeps and duce and a halves had no tires? No soles on your boots, or water proofing layer in your ponchos ? And the medical corps had nothing made of latex ?
All are items that need natural rubber, especially tires which still use a large percentage of natural rubber.

Rubber only grows well in S.E Asia. Some people forget that we learned to guard our rubber supplies after having most of the world's supply cutoff by the Japanese during WWII. What do you think the communists would have done with those rubber plantations ?

Or, maybe you think our Government should own and protect those rubber plantations instead of nasty corporations. Just like communist countries do.

Funny how when the bullets are flying, corporations that supply the things the grunts need are labeled "profiteers", but become just corporations during peace time.

So, Kennedy drew cartoon pictures of missiles in Cuba, just so we could have a Cuban missile crisis ?

SB, the amount of rubber (still used) has been greatly reduced for some time, even for the large trucks that's one reason why they don't get the flat spots from sitting like they used to. They did learn a lesson from the wars & wars lead to many civilian advancements as well but at what costs.
Hopefully there won't be any more wars that globally short the supply of anything, the supply shortages now are more from speculation rather than actually less supply, believe it or not certain types of dandelions are also a good supply of rubber. I may have a bumper crop here. :)

They may be using less natural rubber in tires now, but we're using many millions more tires per year. Add to that, there are many more uses for natural rubber in industry, and the especially the medical and food fields. How often did you see latex gloves being worn 50 years ago? The demand for natural rubber has grown, not declined.

And, how they manufacture tires today has nothing to do with your talking about private US corporations owning rubber plantations in Vietnam 45-50 years ago.

Same can be said for cars, trains, planes, child car seats, play ground, and sports equipment, building codes, fire codes, aerospace, and on and on.... We've lost more people in the development of those than all wars combined. The mostly lib media just doesn't make as much money writing about those tragic losses of lives verses during wars.

And while your mentioning evil corporations, don't forget your lib-leaning lamestream media are some of the biggest, greediest corporations in the world.

Speaking of media corporations and deaths in war, why did the daily news reporting of body counts in Iraq and Afghanistan suddenly stop when obummer got into office ?

SB, your right again everything in the entire world is the fault of libs & no matter what nothing will change that mindset of yours. I should have gone into more detail about the rubber trees, my mistake, plantation trees are planted in rows & the outside one got shot up the most & that's why they marked them even though they were no longer producing latex they were still paid & those were not the only rubber trees on the planet. You never got mileage out of tires that you do now & that's due to improved materials, more population = more tires.
Body counts still go on, just a day or two ago 5 more from friendly fire, the showing of caskets was stopped before Obama but allowed to resume if requested by family & Obama has been there for some.
I don't own any media leaning either way, did you ever stop to think that maybe just maybe there is a difference in reporting things that happen & not reporting what you don't like, making things up or simply ignoring news? Never mind (never going to happen).

Sam,
I said "body count" reporting in the daily news reports, nothing about viewing caskets.

And, your right, I'm not going to change. I try to stick to discussing/debating exactly what you were talking about. You changed the time periods of what you were discussing and changed that I was talking about "body counts" in the news to try and bolster your point.

SB, I'll type even slower so you may be able to see thru the hate filled haze, (Body counts still go on, just the other day or two ago 5 (that's five) more from friendly fire. Should be easy enough for you to read & comprehend.

I got that part. Having been in two friendly fire incidents doesn't easily go unnoticed by me. But one story is not the same as the daily reports the media wrote to beat Bush over the head with.

Now I'll type slowly for you. ;)

I was talking about daily body counts reported by the lamestream media, for which Bush was berated on a near daily basis about all the in killing in HIS war.

And there was a lot of coverage about the many anti-war protests going on all over the country too.

Now that it's obummer's war, shortly after he takes office, that reporting almost completely disappeared.

People aren't getting their daily reminder that we are still loosing troops.

And, have all the many war protests around the country ended ? The war hasn't ended so, either the protests are still going on and being ignored by the LS media, or I guess war is ok with the war protesting crowd if obummer is doing it ?

The only story I've seen in connection with war protesting, in a long, long time, is the past couple of days about a Rapper saying how he was black-balled for complaining in an interview about obummer not doing enough to end the war in Afghanistan.

So, if you can't see that there has been a major change in what, and how, the LS media is reporting, post-Bush administration, . . well then, . . don't complain about others being hate filled, biased, or blind.

Maybe it's just frustration over seeing so much of the wrong type of "Change". ;)
