I spoke with them this morning as they have the best price I could find on bagged Blaschak. Unfortunately their delivery charge for my area was almost 2.5 times higher then what I'd pay http://www.pelletsdirect.com Ended up buying 3 pallets of Blaschak nut from P/D at $295 ton + $59 delivery. Slightly higher then last year ($290 ton/$49 delivered) but the best deal I could find unless I bought Reading coal.

That figures - just far enough way to make it NOT cost effective ..... and that's IF I could get 6 ton on a 1/2 ton pickup & trailer for the 80 mile ride.

Not happening.

We're getting screwed from every direction up here ....

Oh .... and I was wrong. The price went up $25 per ton, not $20.

I think a lot of people will see a price increase this year. I am in the process of ordering a load of bagged coal, and the freight quotes are the highest I have gotten since 2008 when diesel was $5/gal.

Unless I can arrange cheaper trucking, my cost will go up $19 per ton compared to last year.

I want to have an additional 2 tons in my bin just in case this upcoming winter is as severe as our last one. My only problem is that I will need to wait until late September or early October for another 2 tons to fit into the coal bin. I hope it will still be available around here that late.

Been thinkig about coal for upcoming winter. Got about 1.5 tons left. But I am going to put a vertical addition(raise sides) to my bin... gonna get 5-6 tons, that should hold for whole winter if its like past winter was. Plus get 1' fiberglass insulation on heating systems supply/return lines which are under an enclosed home on columns with skirting. Plus work on skirting tighteneing up air drafts and possibly styro panel backsude of skirting.

Im so far from ready for a coal delivery its not funny. So with the new fancy automated coal boiler, I want to have a bin in basement. Needless to say my 5.5 ton bin will be a touch difficult to carry down thier. Glad I screwed 'er together

If I had about 40 to 45 five gallon pails I could likely pull this off and empty the bin compartment this weekend.

I do have 12 pails. Filling those in advance of delivery will get the compartment empty one month sooner (and the delivery of my needed 2 tons one month earlier), so thanks for the good idea.

is there a bakery in your area? do you work at a manufacturing facility? used 5 gallon pails can often be found for next to nothing (or free).

I purchased a cloth cart from Grainger, it's has wooden frame and wheels, holds 500lbs of Rice, easy to move around. They are expensive but last for years, my original one is 19yrs old and still works great.

I've got about 50 of those 5-6 gallon buckets you seek right here!!! (50lb powdered laundry detergent buckets) The ones that haven't already been used for coal are nice and white and smell like fresh laundry detergent! If memory serves they hold about 45lbs of rice coal.

I am going to sound like infomercial pitchman Billy Mays.....but you can have them for FREE plus shipping and handling charges to get them to you!! I'll even include the lids!!!! (plus their shipping and handling charges of course!!) I may even have a jinsu (knock off of the ginsu) knife around here to include in the deal!!

Ask any of your neighbors that have cats if they get their cat litter in the plastic buckets, they hold about 30lbs.

The treehuggers ... or the EPA .. or the economy (or all 3) ruined that one. They no longer come in pails, but in cheap plastic bags with handles.

A royal pain in the ass to open and handle, and are next to useless afterward. I suppose you could shovel coal in it, but I'm not sure you could put more than 40 lbs in there before that plastic blows out & leaves a nice pile on the dirty floor.

The pool cleaning guys go through lots of 5 gallon heavy-duty plastic buckets of chlorine. Some of the chlorine buckets are even up to 30 gallon size.

My brother got me a bunch from a neighbor who does pool cleaning. All the ones I got have screw-on lids that are much easier to use then the usual snap-on lids common to 5 gallon buckets.

Uhhh not sure about where you live but they still sell cat litter in buckets around NE Pa. Tidy Cat comes in two size buckets and Cats Pride comes in one size bucket. I tried them for coal and only filled them about 3/4 way. They are just right for a quick recharge.
