Rice stokers

Will stokers of the variety that have a slanted grate burn only rice sized coal? Can any burn buckwheat also?

I ask this question because of the supply issues of rice being dear and buck being abundant at certain times in the year.

Yes you can burn buckwheat on the bed type stokers. Sometimes a mix of rice and buck is recommended. I've burned pure buck on a bed type stoker with little problem.

I burn only buck in my slanted grate stoves, works great, but be prepared to play a bit till you get it dialed in.

Of course with the Coal-Trol you have an easier time getting it set right and once you do you can jump back and forth by just using the min and max settings for each (rice and buck).

i burn buckwheat in my stoves also........rice is for 16 year old kids with hondas

The only 'issue' I had with buckwheat size coal is that the larger coal seems to have less friction on the grate, the fire and the ashes slid off the grate when I could'nt leave it alone and I poked at the fire on the grate,,,,, and the whole fire and ash slid off into the ashpan...

So after that I didn't mess with the fire or the ashes, and it worked fine... I'd give the Buck coal a try, mixed at first then see if your stove likes it 100%. You may need to change your feed and air settings.
