I'd like to know how a police tactical unit got that 501c3 status to begin with ?
Having been on a board going through the tough process of getting a 501c3 status for a large international car club, alot of that IRS classification has to do with what your purpose is, and how you get and use your funding.
I'd love to know how a police unit can get that status without being just a benevolent organization. A tactical unit doesn't meet any of the 501c3 categories I'm aware of. Unless they are stretching the "public safety testing" part ?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/501(c
Then, there's how they are funded. Member dues, donations, or what ? If they are paid for their services, I don't see how they could have gotten a 501c3 rating.
