Another Lost Harmony Customer!

PostBy: SheepDog On: Mon Jul 07, 2014 11:43 am

That is going to have to find another good source for fuel.

Ok so I am luckier than most and still have some left, but the wife is happier with a big pile of coal she can admire everyday with the knowledge that the house will be warm for the next couple seasons.

Since making her happier usually reflex positively on my happiness when she requested I look into another truck load ordered this summer I decided now was as good as any to start looking.

So with my old source dried up I came back to the place I learned so much about coal at and thought I would ask anyone who cared to trot out your top 3 places you would go if you had to buy a whole truckload sight unseen? (Oh and a list of folks you would not deal with again if anyone feels strongly in that direction!)

This coming winter will be our first to burn coal full time, but based on so many reviews,i will attempt to purchase coal from Direnzo. Never heard anything bad about their coal, everything i read has been positive.

The coal is no longer mined from the former UAE Harmony Mine that was into the Lyken No. 2 vein. Several threads have discussed the timeline and current and past product provided at the old UAE breaker. Here are a few links so you can catch up:

So out of the two Jeddo and Leigh which do you think is the best? Been burning Jeddo last 2 yrs haven't used Lehigh since the 90's when it was still Old Company Lehigh.

I have been using them and have not any any issues. I don't have too much ash. The coal is clean. The new guys are nice and friendly. Definitely worth checking out if you are on the hunt for a new coal company.

I stopped by there yesterday and looked at the coal. Pretty uniform size and not a lot of wood, trash or fines that I could see. I haven't tried any yet this year. I'll probably stop by and get a few bucket fulls to try out in my bucket a day water heater. It's not fussy. It seems to burn anything with a BTU value!!

It's too early to start up the VC2310 so I can't comment about how it would do in a stove. I shut off the Oil Boiler and fired up the little R2D2 (Bucket a Day) today to flush out the water tank and make sure it will gravity circulate still through the plate type heat exchanger for DHW . I named him R2D2 because it is shaped just like him only smaller. By opening and closing valves I can heat the Oil Boiler water or the DHW using the plate heat exchanger or both at the same time. No problems getting HOT water to the second floor bathroom radiator via gravity flow.

Ended up sending my business to Lehigh and bought a truckload of nut.

I paid for more than was delivered so we will see how long it takes to make that right.

Delivery went well except I think the contracted driver forgot he had his trailer brakes on and ripped the end off of my new 30'x40' tarp. He seemed to think it funny which was aggravating. Will not really affect coal storage, but is not ideal.

Coal looks good, but only burning in the Kodiak will tell the tale!
