Hand Fed Coal Stove: Godin 120

Post by Dougiefromthecosmos » Fri. Jul. 18, 2014 10:01 am

Hi, I have just bought a fantastic Godin Coal/wood burner. It is a thing of simple beauty and is similar to this one http://www.antiquestoves.ie/s/index.php?route=pro ... duct_id=56. I will post some pictures. I have been trying to research the date of this stove, it seems very old and I cannot find an identical one online. It is stamped in several places with 120 and the only 120 stoves I can find are either 3720 or 4120. The small hotplate is stamped 120 and the badge is much chunkier than the one in the link I have provided. Can anyone help me with a date. I cannot wait to get it installed. I look forward to posting pictures and making everyone jealous by telling you I paid 60 pounds for it - big smile. If anyone can give me more information that would be great thanks :)

Pictures now added, thanks for looking :)

Doug

WELCOME to NEPA!! There are several Godin guys here on NEPA and I would be willing to bet someone will be along fairly soon to help you out. May not be as fast as it would be in the fall or winter when everyone is fired up and burnin the black rocks.

For around $100 us I would say you got a good deal assuming everything is there and the grate and firepot are in good shape. Good thing about Godin is there are still being made and since you seem to be the UK you shouldn't have a hard time getting any needed parts. Please post some pics when you can. :D

Again... WELCOME!!!

Doug

The pics look great. Wish I knew more about Godins myself so I could help you out. Sadly I don't. If you had a Chubby or a Crawford Baseburner that might be another story. :)

This is a great forum. Good people here who like to help. There are several "international" members as well. New Zealand, the UK, Holland, Germany, Canada, Ukraine and someone from one of the "stans" in Central Asia if memory serves me correct. I am sure I missed some as well. Don't be shy about filling in your profile either. No one in these parts is going to steal you! (Hit tip Freetown Fred)

Again.. WELCOME and I am sure someone will be by to help you out.

Thanks everyone. From my own researches I think this may be the first model of this kind of stove and seems to indicate it was made in Guise which is where the original factory was. It may have been made in Godins lifetime which would make it quite rare, I cannot find a similar one. Anyone know of any Godin experts or where I could go to find more information on it. I am almost looking forward to winter in front of my lovely stove :)

You could always email Godin directly. http://www.godin.fr/ and or try this site for some info.. http://www.stovefinders.com/Index.html

Hope this helps.

Great stuff, try getting an e-mail address for Godin though. Looks like I'll have to go back a few decades and buy a stamp and actually write a letter, probably cost about 40 quid to send a letter overseas these days :)

Love this forum by the way. I have been searching for the right stove and waiting for the right situation to have one for years and I am made up with the stove that has come my way. So HAPPY :) :) :)
