Maybe I can get some help from the experts on this forum.
CAn someone help me with names & phone numbers of places that sell Harman or any other coal stoker boilers?
I have tried my local Harman dealers, but none of the places I have called seem interested in selling me one of these boilers (VF3000).
They tell me that they can order them and thats about the extent of it. Also, they gave me the list price only.

I am serious about buying a boiler and I am shopping around trying to find the best deal, even if I have to drive a few hours.
For the time of year that is coming up, i'm not interested in paying list price. Any advice on where to go?

go to harman's web site and search for dealers in different area around you.

this is what I did I found a great dealer who had a lot of stoves but no vf3000. they gave me a price with the hw coil that was a little under 3500 I ordered it on the spot. I was told it woulld take three weeks for it to come in, I had it in a week and it's been running in the cellar ever since.

thanks Jim.
I will try this, but I won't rule out a road trip to save quite a bit of cash.

Motorbike,

If you find a good deal on a particular boiler PLEASE let me know. I will do the same for you.

btw, if you find a good deal in NH they have NO sales tax. That alone will save a couple of hundred $.

I think PA has 6% right?

yes on the 6% in PA.

You guys find a good dealio on a AHS 260 or something along that lines send me a pm also.
I cringe at the thought of spending 6K+

But it will be better than throwing wood in the HOG 3 times a day.

keep looking they come up, check the paper shop online. It feels great when you can save $4,000 right from the start, maybe it costs a few day's labor to recondition the thing but that's part of the fun.

I got my sf250 from HINTON & SONS in Wind Gap. They gave me a good "CASH" discount (17%) but you have to go in and talk to them, if you just call them they'll just quote you the list price. And they had it in stock. Don't know if they have stokers in stock though.

EFM calls it a coal bin "trap" in their installation manual. According to their instructions, you have to construct one out of wood as a part of your bin. AA supplies their steel "doghouse". Both do the same thing: they allow the owner to remove the auger feed tube to clear obstructions without the owner having to enter the bin to clear an obstruction and/or having to push the coal auger through two feet of coal to re-position it in the bin. On the AA it also supports the very heavy auger in the proper position while it is being mounted on the unit's carrier bearings and the combustion chamber feed tube.

OUCH!!!.... so does anyone have any insight as to where one can get a good used boiler? :D

OR a dealer that has some in stock and would like to make a sale to an out of stater that would normally not even buy from them? If they make $100 on the sale it's worth it b/c I'll probably never be back there again.

I would prefer to buy one in NH since there is NO sales tax :)

go to the place in nh I gave you the info from and order a boiler. I got mine for under $3500 with the hot water coil.

i bought the first one they ever sold.

they know other than needing parts to repair it myself, the only time there going to see me is when I want to buy something else.

steel is going up like everything else, the longer you wait the more it's going to cost.

Personally I would think seriously about buying a coal boiler... The boiler does a better job of storing heat when the house thermostat is not calling for heat [you can't turn off a coal fire, like gas or oil] A boiler would heat your domestic hot water, and there are several more available manufacturers of boilers.

You would use a water to air heat exchanger in your ductwork, very similar to the way central airconditioning is added to a forced air system...

Just something to think about,,, we have several members on the forum who have done just what I describe... and are happy with the results.
