In the brochure they cited 130k and 260k as "capacity" figures, which I took to mean gross output values, and they claimed in the text that 1500 lb of each ton is converted into output, so on the back of my first envelope (260,000/0.75)/12,250 = 28.3 lb. Looking more closely, the "1500 lb" they reference does not include any ash, so maybe the 12,250 should be adjusted upward to account for the absence of ash. If ash is 10%, the back of the more refined envelope would say (260000/0.75)/(12250/0.9) = 25.5 lb.Scottscoaled wrote:Where did you find that? I look at the website/literature and there wasn't anything. I just wanted an hourly number from the AA crowd.
I agree it would be easier if they just published the firing rate.

The 1949 US Bureau of Mines test that Yanche posted for the AA130 indicated that the most they could squeeze out of it was about 115,000 BTU's.

Understand that when the units from Bethlehem and Axeman-Anderson were proposed back in 1946, that they had what we all want: a variable speed blower motor to conserve fuel and electricity. However in the 'real world', production costs were paramount so we all know what the 'Bean Counters' did to that fine idea...... If in fact the net is 112K, I'd suggest that the other manufacturers output numbers are skewed quite a bit, also. Live with one for 50 years, and tell me they don't produce more than the others......right. The real advantages are in long off times, fuel consumption reduced, and a sufficient reserve for start-up applications like domestic hot water.

How many gallons of water do they hold? I forgetwhistlenut wrote:Understand that when the units from Bethlehem and Axeman-Anderson were proposed back in 1946, that they had what we all want: a variable speed blower motor to conserve fuel and electricity. Is there gonna be a quiz afterwards? Man you have been listening to Larry too much. An AA 130 holds approximately 26 gallons and the 260 is about 56 gallons.

So the 260 holds more water than the 520,i like that part. WN, does the 260 shed as much heat as the 520 when naked ??

Better be careful Dave, I told Doug about the boiler Scott's got and it left him hot and bothered.

Yes, they shed quite a few btus, and there are no 'fudging tin crap' wrapped around them to hide the juicy details of it's operation. It was a bad idea way back when, and it is still unnecessary in today's world. I guess we should all start posting the results of failure to maintain equipment photos of leaking boilers. A unit good for another hundred years of service suffers a rotten out back side... the cancer has no conscience, and the welders shutter when they see the ignorance every day. Did I get sidetracked........Yes, I can't wait to see a 45 lb an hour machine chew up the coal and view the fire.
Like Mikes EFM E85s....WOW in a residence. Commercial plant boilers blow me away. The PSNH coal plant in Bow, NH has a 2500 hp fan for the burn process. That baby will suck you against the expanded metal guards (1/2") and suck you glasses, pockets or whatever into the unknown........I was gonna make a comment for WH here, but decided not to push my luck.........he probably remembers her anyway....
