Could a simple bimetallic actuator (such as is often used on the under-fire air inlet of a hand fired coal stove) have been utilized in this service?hotblast1357 wrote:Yup it's a little noisy and slow, but durable and I think will last a while.

It could work??? If, everything were exact and precise. But...it is hard to extract half of a engineered matching set and then go and graft it onto a random different half of another stove.lsayre wrote:Could a simple bimetallic actuator (such as is often used on the under-fire air inlet of a hand fired coal stove) have been utilized in this service?hotblast1357 wrote:Yup it's a little noisy and slow, but durable and I think will last a while.
It has been reportedly done here on our forum and the results have been mixed.
Also, when the t-stat is used to fire a FHA Furnace in a basement, as is this case, and the desire is to have the t-stat mounted up on a different floor level in the living space, a bi-metallic damper is not a good choice anyways.

Simply stated, hotblast1357 wants to control the temperature in his living space by way of a thermostat located there. He needs the furnace to match the heat demand needed to do that. A bi metallic just keeps the stove temp steady and wouldn't increase or decrease heat output based on needs in the living space.lsayre wrote:Could a simple bimetallic actuator (such as is often used on the under-fire air inlet of a hand fired coal stove) have been utilized in this service?hotblast1357 wrote:Yup it's a little noisy and slow, but durable and I think will last a while.
