Ok lets figure this one out .
Propain at summer fill price is $1.69 it takes 1000 gallons on average somtimes more.
Bit coal takes 4 ton at $100.00 per ton and delivery is $120.00 per ton so total for coal is $220.00 per ton.
Which one would you chose?
I live out in the sticks not in town with no neighbor for 2 miles away.
Which one would you pick :D

100 a ton and added per ton what do they do make 4 deliveries? why isn't it 120 coal X4 tons + 100 delivery? Sounds like getting ripped off for 300 bucks unless 4 separate loads in a pickup truck. The rest comes down to spare time money and ambition plus being able to be there to take care of the stove. If you work long hours maybe a combination of both. Burn coal when you will be home for a couple of days and porpain when gone for a long work day and no time to deal with it. It is a it all depends on time available thing sometimes. At least the propain can be turned down as you leave and turned back up when you get back home especially if 12 hours or so to save some cash. Even better if a set schedule and a clock thermostat can do it for you and never notice the difference.

I hope it is great coal and sounds like your set for a while. Thats a long haul.

I'd probably burn coal instead of propane even if they were the same price. The fire thing, plus the direct heat which I like. Not the on/off heat cycle of a furnace, which I don't even have now anyway.
