You will be even happier when I report efficiency now both stokers are running at a reasonable level. So far looks stunning.

Both stokers lit. Temp taken on the flu 1 foot from the stove. Not flat out but working hard.

Official monster call....

Baby it's cold outside (with wind chill near 0*), flu temp hear 140* and this thing is cranking (MAX=35). Perhaps this stove can make it own it's own as Wizard (Our Glenwood #9) is now out as I am curious as to just how far I can push this thing. We will see - very impressive.

Wow that looks like a beast!! I like the heat exchanger tubes, if only I could do something like that to mine... That would be a big project, I wonder how much they actually help.

Difference between the Hyfire and the AK180 is stove sides (with or without the shroud) vs 35 sq ft of tubing with an 1800 cfm fan blowing it out of stove to where you want it to go. I think it makes a fantastic difference but I do not have a Hyfire to compare it to. A Hyfire with a shroud and the other stuff you would have to build, the price difference is tiny. Sometimes you get what you pay for. Of course, there are exceptions, like GM products ...... hahahahaha etc.,,

Well I already have a furnace, would have to put the exchangers in and weld them.

Good for you HB, but this old horse farmer wouldn't know the difference between a welding rod and a nose picker. Start a project and send pics - lots of them.

Hello, I too am a proud owner of an AK, mine is the 220. I am heating 1000 sq ft open first floor with peak ceiling at about 25 feet. I have 2 ceiling fans up there on low. I am also feeding the 2nd floor bedrooms. Coaltrol set at 70 and it is keeping at 70. This is with one burn tray going. Min set at 6 max at 12. (I am not going to pretend I fully understand what that means yet.) My question is when do I light my 2nd tray? At this point I am burning about 50 lbs of rice a 24hr period. I see in your photos you have pretty good size flames. Mine get about 12" at times. I was concerned, should I be? The front of the stove just above the door is always 198-225 degrees. Would like any advice you may have as this is my first coal furnace and first fire burning anything heat soarce.
Thanks
Nick

Hello, I too am a proud owner of an AK, mine is the 220.
Da big moolah, WOW. Have fun, I am.

Hi Nick, no need for the second stoker yet, you are cruising in first gear and doing just fine. Everything sounds normal to me. When you need MAX over about 20 to stay warm it would be time for some twin fun. As I look at your town it's 12* and clear right now, so I think you have similar weather to us. MAX=12? You may not need that second stoker and there is nothing wrong with that. However, wind changes everything. CN says, overkill is fine but more overkill is better. YEAH way to go. Your stove efficiency here will be incredible.

As for junior stove here, it's 10* outside and I am almost flat out. Just WOW, I love this thing. BTW that was always the plan, it has a BIG heating job and it living up to all my expectations and then some. I have christened it Big Blue. As we descend into winter from here my playtoys the Wings base heater/G#9 join in and that is how I wanted it. Lots of fun, cozy as hell. Right on schedule to reduce my coal consumption by 30% this winter unless the next ice age comes. My life's plan for once is working out fine and that is a new experience for me. :D
.
As I have always stated, the little increase in stove cost over a Hyfire is WELL worth it. You get what you pay for.

A little thread drift here.... IS the intake to the combustion fan totally open Does the squirrel cage fan have dirt on the blades, can you upgrade to a 65 CFM fan. What does LL say? OK back to 180.

They said that the two years I spent at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute studying mechanical engineering was not the same as coal college. ;)

Well I studied $ex, drugs and rock n' roll and I was told I was a coal stove expert (kinda).
