Anyone Use a Heat Gun to Start Anthracite? Good Method?

I tried using my MAPP gas torch to get my range going. MAPP gas burns much, much higher temp than an electric heat gun can put out (gets steel yellow hot). It wouldn't work on anthracite. Not enough heat volume output. The high temps dissipated too quickly throughout the coal bed.

I use a MAP torch to light my stove. What I usually do is lay a base of charcoal on the bottom and then spread a thin coat of Anthracite on top. The charcoal will ignite first.
