Didn't see this link posted elswhere on the forum. Some may find it boring, but some get excited about this stuff. You can get ash content, BTUs, moisture, swelling index, etc if your interested. Some data is old, but so is coal.

Search settings are a little clunky, but if you mess with it, you can get the data you want.

LOL you got that right. here's a version with some bigger select boxes. Save to your computer then rename it with .html extension Open it with your browser.

The only thing I've edited on this is the formatting for the boxes and added absolute URL's instead of relative so the form still works properly.

EDIT: if you downloaded coalqula.txt I missed a URL at the bottom that sends you back to the top where the submit button is. :? , Anyhow this one fixes that...

That has to be worse form I've seen in a long time. Looks to be quite old.

Interesting data. I made my selections for Schuylkill County, PA and downloaded it in CVS format. It wouldn't open in Excel. I then opened it in Notepad and noticed a special leading character in the first line. Deleted that character and saved in CVS format. It was now a valid Excel file format and it opened.

I'll bet the USGS web site was created years ago by a summer intern. Just the kind of project given to college kids.

Here are a few

The largest fields of anthracite coal in the United States are found in Northeastern Pennsylvania called the Coal Region, where there are 7 billion short tons (6.3 billion metric tons) of minable reserves. Deposits at Crested Butte, Colorado were mined historically.

Anthracites of newer, tertiary or cretaceous age, are found in the Crow's Nest part of the Rocky Mountains in Canada, and at various points in the Andes in Peru.
