I think I am ready, I have 2.25 ton coal in stock, last winter I used 1.25 ton, so I have some extra for the unforseeing.
But like last winter it looks like you get all the winter and I have a winter long fall
Stay warm
Peter.

You all inspired me and I decided to fire her up, never mind I had to fill up a bucket of coal a scoop at a time due to all these lame restrictions! She's going nice now and my dog is already passed out in front of the stove. It might have also been that four letter S-word that got me going!

Ahh, they got you, aye EP? I'm still holding out a little longer. I'm a tad north of you, and they're still showing highs almost to 50* till the middle of next week. Maybe if I had my allotment of bagged coal, I'ld be thinking differently, I don't know. I do enjoy the "free" time in the morning tho, W/O having to tend to the stove B4 work. I guess you could call it a love/hate relationship. I love working it, "after" work, but not so much "before" work. You know the deal.

Yes Joe they got me and my fingers were a little cold while typing. Nice to see another Connecticutican...or whatever it is that we are called. I grew up in Enfield which is pretty north lol. Are you near there? I was pretty happy I got it going on the first try! Last year we were coal virgins so it was a learning experience. Hopefully I can keep her going

Been burnin since 10/11. I'm to old to be chilled. The dampness is what gets to me. If it gets to warm I use the windowstats.
So now I'm old, fat, dumb and really happy since 10/11.
I've been doing this many years and lately it seems like I start a little earlier every year.

(Ray beat me to the punch EP. This ones for you)
Sounds like you've learned well grass-hopper. 1st try start-up is something to be proud of. Of course all us newbies who've resorted and converted to coal, are now seeing the price of oil dropping. My life story in a nut-shell. But at the current prices, there's still a substantial savings burning black rocks, so I'll keep poking at it. (Get it? Poking? Firebed? Ashes? ....Never mind...bad joke).
So EP, you're an ex Enfieldenite, huh? We spend lots of time there, cause here in Mayberry RFD, there ain't many commercial establishments. (I'm over by the air port,in Windsor Locks).
Hey Ray! You're a fellow Malloy contributor too, I see.

Well I wasn't calling anyone old bahahaha I was in cold-denial mostly, but now that it's a balmy 72 degrees in here I wonder what the heck I was waiting for. I have family in Windsor Locks as well I worked at the airport quite awhile ago so I'm quite familiar with the area, it was my stomping grounds. I can definitely call myself a coal convert since I was longingly looking at the big boy coal furnaces today. A girl can dream!

- Stoker Coal Boiler: 1960 EFM520 installed in truck box
- Hand Fed Coal Stove: Crane 404 with variable blower
- Coal Size/Type: 404-nut, 520 rice ,anthracite for both
We fired up the EFM520 boiler10/10/14 to heat the DHW for 2 houses & provide heat for 2 houses & the shop. We augered 7.85 tons of rice into the bin, should be about 6.5 tons left yet. 11/1/14 we fired up our Crane 404 in our house to give a "warm" room,40 - 50# bags then & now we have 34 bags left.Keeping warm & happy with coal heat.
It's snowing here in Ringwood, NJ.
2 tons on the porch.
6 tons under a tarp.
1 and a half tons under the porch for a rainy (cold) day.
I'm ready.............
74 degrees inside, and a new glass in the DVC 500!

I am lighting my MarkIII right now. It has been kinda cold for a couple days and next week it is going to be colder so I thought it is time. I have three ton of pea coal so I should be good for the year.

You guys are killing me! My fingers were freezing outside today when I was working out in the yard. kept thinking, "I need to fire up that stove". Especially seeing I just picked up a ton of Santa pea. I found a good use for my tow dolley, that usually sits around the yard, now that we have triple A. I made a top for it recently, to tow my new 1987 John Deere 214 garden tractor. After I took a few dimensions, thought, "Why not put a ton of coal on it"? So here it is, it's maiden voyage, with a skid of Blaschack.
