Water Flow Through a Cast Iron Radiator?

Coal Size/Type: Pea, from Little Buck mine
Other Heating: New Yorker oil burner which almost never runs, thanks to the Tarm!

Does it matter if the water flows through a cast iron radiator top to bottom or bottom to top? The radiator I just bought has the ports on the same side, not one on each side.
