I received my Vigilant last fall and did a quick install in the living room. The stove sat on a layer of bricks and sand for the season and now it is time for permanent solution. I now have the time to do it right and move the stove back as far as possible. I will also be installing a new floor and making a hearth pad. The fireplace had a 1' x 1' raised brick hearth which I removed and skimmed over the rough buttress below. Next will be to pick out the flooring and lay the tile.

Or, maybe they'll think it stands for, "Never Endure Propane Again " ?

I didn't want to bring any chemicals into the house so I'm staining the brick. The last couple seasons I had dur-rock blocking the fireplace opening and I sealed the seam with furnace cement. This season I will block the damper opening with fire proof insulation and dur-rock on each side of the pipe that will go up into the clay liner...which still looks new!

After many conversations with myself I decided to go with the classic Victorian look of 20 coats of pain on the brick and mortar. only 18 to go!

Real nice ma:) Just remember, any spaces between pipe & durarock CAN be safely closed up with insulation.
